FROM THE GOSPEL
In this week's Gospel, we are reminded of our love for all humanity, in contemplating the question ‘Who is my neighbour?’ In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus uses this story to teach us that it is our duty to look after the welfare of all those we encounter, regardless of social status, ethnicity, or religion. We are called to care for the stranger. This is a message that we understand and strive to live out daily in all aspects of our school community. One way in which we show love to our neighbours is by looking out for their wellbeing and checking to see if they are ok. We are acknowledging the importance of supporting the mental health of others today with R U OK? Day a valuable opportunity to check in with our neighbour..
Dear Parents and Carers,
The above quote, by Henry Ford, pays tribute to the success experienced through collaboration, team work and working together. This type of team work happens here at OLHC on a daily basis, through the mutual trust and respect that parents and staff members have for each other through a mutual purpose - the student/child.
Our school community is indeed blessed, through this supportive environment that enables students to develop and grow in their faith and learning. It has indeed been so positive, over the past term, to welcome parents and grandparents into our school community, to share positive experiences that demonstrate working together.
At the enrolment of your child, parents are encouraged to work in close partnership with the school, to support the development of your child and work together to experience this success. As a school community, we continually strive to find ways to involve and engage with parents to support the learning that takes place at OLHC.
Through this commitment and partnership, children learn valuable life lessons in relation to working together, partnership, mutual trust and working towards a common goal. For me personally, this has been highlighted from school events over the past ten weeks -
- St Mary of the Cross Mackillop Walkathon
This whole school event enabled students, staff and parents to come together and participate in a walk around our local area. This also enabled the generosity of sponsorship to contribute towards the completion of our school mosaic prayer space. Thank you for your generous donations of approximately $2,900.00.
- Father’s Day Stall
Thanks to the dedicated team work of members of the P&F, students were able to purchase a variety of special gifts to acknowledge, thank and celebrate the special male role models in their lives. This teamwork enabled the students to show gratitude to these significant men in their lives. Thank you for your support of this initiative.
- Book Week Dress Up Parade
What a wonderful day we had! Students were able to learn more about the books that were nominated by the Children's Book Council (CBC) and completed activities related to these nominated books. The students all looked great dressed up as their chosen book character. It was a day to remember and wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents attend our Book Week Parade - led by Mrs Murphy who was retiring from her role as Classroom School Support Officer (SSO).
We would also like to acknowledge many other events that have taken place this term including -
- CDF Public Speaking Competition at Holy Family Ingleburn
- Christmas Art Story Competition (Stage Three)
- Launch of Word Mission Month at Holy Spirit College Bellambi
- Participation in a variety of Sport Gala Days (Netball, Soccer and Basketball)
- Upcoming excursion for Stage One students to Symbio Wildlife Park
- Year Five Overnight Excursion to the National Capital
What a wonderful term!
Thank you to the supportive staff that have enabled each of the above activities to be planned with attention to detail. Thank you also to the office administration staff who support with phone calls, bookings and administrative tasks associated with organising these events. We are indeed grateful for these learning opportunities for our students and the way that they have engaged in all the learning experiences that have been provided this term.
As we take a moment to look back on all that has been over this third term, we do so in a spirit of gratitude, giving thanks to God for all that has been. We indeed have so much to be grateful for. May the coming school holiday break provide the opportunity for you to spend some time with your children and enjoy a break from the normal routine.
Wishing you many blessings for the coming weeks.

Congratulations to MacKillop who currently have the most house points. These points will continue to be counted each week and the winning house for the term will be announced at Flag Raising next Monday morning. This house will be rewarded with a mufti day next week.
Each week there is a different PB4L focus that will be explicitly taught to the students as a reminder of the expectations, procedures and how to follow the school rules in this setting. Next week the focus will be some of our Afternoon Dismissal areas, Carline and John Therry. These expectations will also be displayed in the classroom on a poster which highlights how the students can show that they are;
- Being Safe
- Be Respectful
- Be an Active Learner in these areas.
This term we have added a new layer to this in order to teach students how to build positive relationships with their peers during this time. Please see the poster for Playground 3 below that was handed out at Flag Raising, explicitly taught to the students and hung in each classroom.
As we approach the end of the term it is a good time to reflect on all of the learning, hard work and achievements from this term. I hope the holiday break brings you rewarding time as a family and a chance to unwind and relax ready for Term 4.

Congratulations to Emma (5M) and Matthew (6M) who both represented OLHC with pride at the CDF Public Speaking Regional Final that was held at Holy Family School Ingleburn.
As a finalist representing OLHC, Matthew presented a speech on the topic ‘A dream come true ‘.
As a Year 5 finalist, Emma presented a speech on the topic ‘I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast the stone across the water to cast many ripples. We are very proud of both Emma and Matthew for the way that they prepared and delivered their speech with confidence.

UNIFORM LABELLING
We completely understand parental frustration regarding lost and missing items of uniform. Therefore, the holiday period is a wonderful opportunity to check that all pieces of your child’s uniform are clearly labelled with permanent marker pen. Students should know where their name is marked for easy checking.
Please encourage your child to place all items straight into their bags rather than leaving them on the playground or in their classroom.
When we return in Term 4, all students will need to be wearing full summer uniform.
Lost Property
We have a large number of clothing in lost property that does not have any names.
If the lost property items are not claimed by the end of Term 3, we will be washing the clothing and donating them to our second-hand clothing pool.
Final reminder: STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY
Staff will be engaged in professional learning on this day. Thank you for organising supervision for your children.
Afternoon Dismissal
Parents are reminded to advise your child/ren how they are going home each day.
If you need to change pick up arrangements, please contact the office before 2pm by phone. This is to ensure we have minimal disruption to class and students are not confused on how they are going home.
Changes to afternoon dismissal should be by exception only and reserved for emergencies or situations that are unavoidable.
We thank you for your understanding and support.
