FROM THE GOSPEL
In the Gospel last weekend, Jesus was talking with His disciples when He asked them who people thought He was. What are people saying about Him? Peter was the only one to recognise and who had the courage to say that Jesus was the Christ, the one that had been promised throughout the Old Testament. Jesus, recognising Peter’s faith and insight then said Peter would be the one to build the Church. No doubt at the time Peter wasn’t quite sure what that would mean but he certainly did build a church with the other disciples that has lasted for some 2000 years. Sometimes, we don’t quite know what we are supposed to do to add to the building of the Church. We too have to have faith, listen and work with each other to bear Christ to all.
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we prepare to celebrate Fathers' Day this weekend we wish a Happy Fathers' Day to all Our Lady Help of Christians fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers and uncles! Thank you to our P&F for supporting our students to celebrate this special day with the special men in their lives. The students really enjoyed choosing a gift at the Fathers’ Day stall this week.

This celebration gives us reason to pause, to pray for, and to reflect on the Fathers’ we honour. On this Fathers' Day, we celebrate, congratulate, and pray for the men who continue to reflect the Divine qualities of fatherhood as they lovingly establish, nourish, and maintain their families. Fathers are a blessing, and we thank them for blessing us with lives of dedication, endurance, and love.
Every father is a work in progress and each father is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all pattern for fatherhood. Fathers-to-be, have often developed a clear sense of the kind of parent they intend to become. They know, at least, what kind of parent they don’t want to be. But the first days after a child’s birth, these thoughts are challenged by the realisation that fatherhood is a real-life role that is influenced daily by the unexpected. A new father, in a sense, embarks on a pilgrimage of sorts. As the child grows older, a father is repeatedly challenged to understand, support and always love his child, who, it turns out, is nothing less than the complex web of humanity that all of us are.
A father’s pilgrimage is a vocation, calling him to discover each child as a unique individual and to nurture that. But he discovers something else too. Little by little, astonishingly, he discovers himself along the way ~ someone whose hidden gifts have been unearthed by his children.
We remember and gratefully keep in our prayers all the Our Lady Help of Christians fathers and father figures as they continue their daily pilgrimage.
May we pause, pray for, reflect and remember those Fathers who have loved, nurtured and inspired us. May we also pray for those Fathers who are enjoying their heavenly reward.
We pray to Mary Help of Christians, to intercede for us and bless those special men in our lives who instil love, gentleness, patience, compassion and joy.

BOOK WEEK 2023 - Read, Grow, Inspire
Last week, we had a wonderful celebration for Children’s Book Week. Each year, the Children’s Book Council (CBC) nominates a selection of books (Older readers, Younger readers and Early Childhood) for Book of the Year. This year, we purchased a number of these texts for our school library.
All students from Kinder - Year Six had the opportunity to participate in a range of activities linked to these texts as part of Book Week. The students also enjoyed participating in the Book Parade in the afternoon.
Thank you to the many parents who were able to join us. It was wonderful to celebrate a love of reading with the students!

MESSAGE FROM Fr Sarkis
Dear Parents,
On Sunday 3rd September at 7.30pm we have Catechesis for Adults beginning in our Parish. Your children are receiving their religious instruction in our school, but perhaps the last time you received any catechesis was when you got married, or even before your First Holy Communion. What is being offered to us is something quite unique. We all have serious issues in our lives, and for this we need to receive a word that can progress us in our faith. The seed you received at baptism has enormous potential to produce eternal life inside of you. This seed often remains dormant and needs a special stimulus. I invite you to come and listen.
This series of catechesis will be held on Sundays & Thursdays evenings at 7.30pm in the Parish Meeting Room (next to the office).
Babysitters will be provided. Call Gabriele on 0424051916 for more information.
Fr Chris Sarkis,
Parish Priest.
