GOSPEL REFLECTION - KINGDOM OF GOD

In the gospel reading from last weekend, Jesus uses parables to tell His disciples about the kingdom of heaven. He compares the kingdom to a hidden treasure in a field. If someone finds it, they would be so happy that they would sell everything they have just to buy that field and keep the treasure. Jesus also compares the kingdom to a merchant who is searching for valuable pearls. When the merchant finds a pearl that is worth a lot, he sells everything he owns to buy it.
These parables teach us important lessons about the kingdom of heaven. They show us that the kingdom is like a precious treasure or a valuable pearl. It is something so special and important that we should be willing to give up everything we have to be a part of it.
Jesus wants us to understand that the kingdom of heaven is worth more than any material possessions we may have.
He also tells us that those who are knowledgeable about the kingdom should be like wise leaders, who bring out both new and old teachings and share them with others. These parables remind us to value the kingdom of heaven above all else and to keep growing in our understanding of it.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Next Tuesday, 8th August, we celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop - Australia’s first saint. Mary MacKillop was a trail-blazer in her lifetime, leaving a culture of exemplary living for her followers to emulate. Mary paved the way for education of poor children and a variety of ministries which addressed the needs of 19th century Australia.
Her legacy continues today in countless ways. Education in its many facets is still a strong ministry for the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
Mary’s work continues today with a myriad of ways of bringing healing and hope through spirituality, counselling, supervision and mentoring.
Mary MacKillop’s legacy encourages us to be people of justice and ecumenism.
Mary inspires us to be courageous and hopeful and to have a deep faith in our God who provides.
Mary MacKillop has shown us how to forgive and how to be compassionate; she teaches us about spirituality and is a saint for all of us today.
The life of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop demonstrates the deep commitment that was shown to her faith and the Church. She stood for others believing that her work was for the good of others; that those around them would live lives that were fulfilled and filled with prayer and the Holy Spirit. Mary is remembered by many quotes, and I leave this one with you this week to reflect upon as we journey through the week.
“If disappointed, don’t say hard things. Only think a little, pray a little, and try to remember that God will bring about what is best in God’s own time.”
Mary MacKillop, 2 September 1873
WALKATHON
Next Tuesday 8th August, we are celebrating the Feast of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop, with a school walkathon. This will be a wonderful opportunity for parents to be involved and to be part of this walk around the local area. Parents are welcome to join us for a liturgy in the St Joachim Hall, from 8:30am. The walkathon will then commence with our senior students, Year 6. Parents are warmly invited to be part of the walkathon and walk with your child.
Students are encouraged to collect sponsorship from relatives and friends. All money raised will be put towards the completion of the mosaic prayer space located near our playground area.
Thank you to those parents who have nominated to help at the walkathon. Parents that have indicated that they are able to help are asked to meet at the Flag poles following the liturgy on Tuesday morning.
May we use the coming week to reflect on the importance of St Mary of the Cross and the legacy that she has left for all to follow.

LOWES
Information has been received from LOWES that indicates that a price increase on school uniforms will come into effect from Term Four 2023.
Lowes has indicated that the current economic climate has resulted in rising costs for raw materials, production, and transportation, which directly affects the garments. We understand that an increase in uniforms concerns families and want to assure you that we have carefully reviewed prices in relation to the cost of each garment.
Lowes will continue to offer 20% off during sale days.
