From the Gospel - Pentecost Sunday
When Pentecost came, the believers were gathered together. Suddenly they heard a powerful wind and it filled the whole house. Then they saw tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages. People from every nation were amazed to hear them speak in their own language.
Our Lady Help of Christians Feast Day
24th May
Dear Parents and Carers,
This is a most significant week in the life of both our school and parish community - Our Lady Help of Christians. Yesterday, 24th May, as a school and parish we remembered and recalled the significance of Our Lady - the mother of Jesus on her feast day. In the simplest of ways, a Catholic feast day is any day when we remember and celebrate something or someone important to our faith.
The word feast comes from the Latin festes, meaning ‘joy’ and symbolises a time of celebration. The Church has a year of feast days in this sense, partnered together with holy days of obligation and saints’ days and days devoted to expressions of God’s love in the lives of Jesus and his mother, Mary. With a deep and profound love, Mary said “Yes” to God’s call to be the mother of Jesus.
Tomorrow, Friday 26th May, will be a time of celebration as we come together to celebrate a whole school Mass as a community of faith where we honour and celebrate the life of Our Lady, Help of Christians. All parents and carers are most welcome to join us, at this Eucharistic celebration. Following this, we will then join together in the school grounds for a BBQ - we are very grateful to members of our parent community, who have generously volunteered their time to assist with this community celebration. After this school BBQ picnic, parents and carers will have the opportunity to visit their child/ren classrooms. During this time, parents and carers will be able to join in with their child’s learning and participate in Maths games.
Students may go home with parents and carers following from this open classroom. They will need to be signed out with their classroom teacher.
We are very much looking forward to our celebrations and joining together to celebrate this important feast of Mary. Our grateful thanks go to Fr Sarkis, who as Parish Priest, provides enormous spiritual guidance and pastoral support to our school and parish community. Fr Sarkis has a significant and pivotal role in both our school and parish communities. We also thank Miss O’Sullivan, our Religious Education Coordinator and the school Religious Education team for the planning and organisation that went into the special celebrations for this feast.
Below I have included the Our Lady Help of Christians Parish prayer -
May we continue to Seek Wisdom and Love God.
Looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow for Feast Week celebrations.

WINTER UNIFORM
It is wonderful to see the way all students have been wearing their full school winter uniform with pride. This requires students to wear a tie and their school jumper if they are cold. The sports jacket is only to be worn with the sports uniform. The girls can choose to wear either grey tights or long grey socks with their winter uniform. As the weather gets colder, some students choose to wear a parka, scarves, gloves and beanies to and from school. This is acceptable as long as they are school colours (maroon or grey) and they must be removed in the classroom. Thank you for your ongoing support with following the OLHC School Uniform policy. The pride that the students take in wearing their school uniform correctly is a reflection of your support. Please keep in mind the school expectations with regards to hair and earrings.
PB4L - Uniform
The PB4L focus for this week has been the expectations for Afternoon Dismissal, we had a whole school practice of these expectations with the students and the teachers will be awarding playground tickets each afternoon to students following the rules of how to be safe, respectful and an active learner as they leave the school. We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child uses one of the dismissal points each afternoon (Pick Up, John Therry, Bus, After School Care or Classroom Pick up).
Please remember that if you plan to come into the school to pick up your child you must enter the school via the St Anne gate and not through the school car park gate. We also ask that parents not park in the school car park and walk over to pick up their child from the Pick Up or John Therry waiting area.
Congratulations to Ingham House for being the winning house for the halfway point through the term, they will be awarded an ice block reward.

Diocesan Cross Country
On the 23rd of May 2023, a group of 21 students represented OLHC in the Diocesan Cross-Country Competition in Nowra. All students turned up to school nice and early to head down to the competition. All students took part in the competition and tried their very best. It was a difficult 2km course with lots of steep hills. It was quite inspiring seeing the students not give up and finishing the course in great time. A real credit to our school.
Morning Supervision
Parents are reminded that student supervision commences each morning at 8.00 am.
Although we understand many parents have work commitments, it is important to note that although a few staff may be on the premises early, gates for students to enter the school do not open until 8am. Students remain the responsibility of parents if they arrive prior to this time. Morning supervision for students does not commence until 8am daily.
Parents are requested not to drop your child/ren to school prior to this time each day. Camp Australia offers before school care daily for students that require care prior to this time.
Thank you for your support with this.
P&F DISCO
Thank you to the members of the P&F who have been working very hard in preparation for the disco being held tonight in the St Joachim Hall. This event would not be possible without the support of parents and those parents who help on the night with supervision.
The students really love the opportunity to have fun at the disco and we are looking forward to sharing photos of this special event. I am sure that all the students will bring their dancing shoes tonight!
ASSEMBLY
Our next Assembly will be held on Friday 2 June 2023. Merit and Principal Awards will be presented. Congratulations to the following students who will be receiving a Principal's Award.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING (PB4L)
When students exhibit positive behaviour, by following our school rules, their name is written on a raffle ticket and is entered into a draw where two winners are selected at flag-raising on a Monday morning. The students receive a voucher for the Canteen which can be used for treats or put towards a lunch order. Congratulations to these winners:
