FROM THE GOSPEL - SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
In the gospel for the 6th Sunday of Easter Year A, that we will reflect on this weekend, Jesus speaks to his disciples about the coming of the Holy Spirit. He tells them that he will ask the Father to send them another Advocate, the Spirit of truth, who will be with them forever. This Advocate will teach them all things and remind them of everything Jesus has said to them.
As Catholics, we believe in the Holy Trinity – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, and it is through the Holy Spirit that we receive the grace and strength to live our lives according to God’s will.
Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit is a great source of comfort and hope for us as Catholics. The Holy Spirit is not just an abstract concept, but a real and present force in our lives. When we receive the Sacraments, particularly Baptism and Confirmation, we are filled with the Holy Spirit and become part of the Body of Christ.
Finally, Jesus tells his disciples that he will not leave them as orphans, but will come to them. This is a powerful reminder that even when we feel alone or abandoned, God is always with us. Through the Holy Spirit, we are connected to God and to one another as members of the Body of Christ.
We particularly remember those children who have begun their preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation - where they will each receive the gift of the Holy Spirit - The Advocate.
Dear Parents and Carers,
The month of May is traditionally the month associated with Mary, the mother of Jesus. As such, it is a very appropriate month for celebrating the great gift of all mothers. On behalf of the students and staff, I would like to wish all the mothers in the Our Lady Help of Christians community a very happy Mother’s Day, for this coming Sunday. The special love that a mother can give is always appreciated, but not always as acknowledged as it should be.
To all our mothers, please be sure to relax on Sunday and allow your family to show their love and appreciation of the invaluable role you play in their lives. Our students had the opportunity to select a special gift for the special women in their lives with the support of volunteers who are supporting the wonderful work of the P&F. Gratitude is extended to the parents and grandparents who were able to help in the organisation and purchase of these special gifts this week. Happy Mother’s Day to all those special women in our school community.
A PRAYER FOR OUR MOTHERS
Lord, thank you for all mothers.
For the new ones, who endure sleepless nights with infants in their arms.
For the busy ones, who juggle the pressures of home and family life.
For the steadfast ones, who nurture and care for our special vulnerable children.
For the patient ones, who always seek to forgive and engage with their pre-teens.
For the persistent ones, who cleverly find new ways to connect with their mini-adults.
For the mother aunts, who step in to cradle and care for nieces and nephews.
For all grandmas, who love and support their precious grandchildren.
For the foster mums that are called to gather and cover the fragile ones.
For the Sunday mums who care for our children and lead them in faith.
For the mums who give far beyond their own resources, who overcome disability to cherish and love.
Thank You Lord, for all our beautiful mothers. Help us to support them and keep them in our prayers.
May you bless them now on this their special day. Amen.
Jane Webb
Further to Mrs Webbs comments above, Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers and grandmothers for this coming Sunday. We hope you have a special day surrounded by the love of your family.
The students enjoyed picking out the perfect gift for you from our Mother's Day stall this week.
A huge thank you is expressed to the P&F committee members for their work planning and organising for this. The students will have another opportunity to buy from the Mother’s Day stall tomorrow if they didn’t have the opportunity to do so on Tuesday.
All gifts are at a cost of $5.00.
WINTER UNIFORM
As of next week, Week 4, all students are expected to wear their full school winter uniform. This requires students to wear a tie and their school jumper if they are cold. The sports jacket is only to be worn with the sports uniform. The girls can choose to wear either grey tights or long grey socks with their winter uniform. As the weather gets colder, some students choose to wear a parka, scarves, gloves and beanies to and from school. This is acceptable as long as they are school colours (maroon or grey) and they must be removed in the classroom. Thank you for your ongoing support with following the OLHC School Uniform policy. The pride that the students take in wearing their school uniform correctly is a reflection of your support.
PB4L - Uniform
The PB4L focus for this week has been the expectations for Flag Raising and next week we will focus on the expectations for Assembly. The teachers will revise these expectations with the students and house points are always awarded for the best class moving to and from and during Assembly each Friday afternoon (even weeks). The House Points have restarted for Term 2 and on Monday morning, at Flag Raising, it was announced that Rose are currently in first place. House Points will continue to be counted each week and students are awarded house points for following the school rules (both in the classroom and on the playground), wearing the correct uniform, completing their homework and for borrowing from the library.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL
On Friday 19th May we will be acknowledging National Walk Safely to School Day and we have tattoos to give all students who get out with an aim to get healthy and walk to school (or even part of the way to school) on this day.
This event encourages all primary school children, their parents and carers to walk safely and regularly to school. This event seeks to promote better health, road safety, public transport and the environment. Children who are regularly physically active are healthier and perform better academically.
We encourage you, if possible, to participate and this will be recognised as you walk through the gates on this day. If walking from home to school isn’t an option maybe you could park a bit further away and walk part of the way to school.

SPLICED PROGRAM
On Monday the 8th of May, stage 3 SPLICED students had the opportunity to spend the day working on their SPLICED projects with the help and guidance of Miss Fajloun and Miss Northey. It was a great day for them to plan out their projects and get their peer input and feedback.
This year we have a range of topics ranging from World Wars, Cryptography and psychological disorders. The SPLICED students are presenting their information through various literacies including websites, magazine articles, essays, artworks, poetry, novels and many more.
We look forward to seeing their end projects being published and presented in the annual SPLICED book and website.

PARENT INDUCTION
As you will note from this newsletter, we have a number of events coming up where we will be requesting the assistance of parent helpers. These events such as the P&F school disco and Feast Day BBQ depend on the generous time of parent helpers to be successful. In order to volunteer to assist, parents are required to complete a parent induction course.
Mrs Cameron is holding an induction meeting for all interested parent helpers.
This will be held next Thursday 18th May from 2:15pm in the school library.
Please notify the school office if you are able to attend this meeting.
If you have a WWCC volunteer number please also bring this information with you. Otherwise, you will be asked to complete a Volunteer Declaration form available from the school office.
TAKING LEAVE DURING THE SCHOOL TERM - REQUEST FOR EXTENDED LEAVE

Please also provide all relevant travel documentation, so that Mrs Webb can use this as part of the leave approval process.
It is important to note that school attendance data is taken into consideration during this approval process.
