Last Sunday's Gospel ...
Last Sunday was the Feast of Corpus Christi or Body of Christ. Jesus told us that the bread and wine are his body and blood - not just a representation of them. He commissioned the apostles to do what he had done in his memory - give thanks, offer the gifts of bread and wine and transform them. This gift he gave has been passed down through the priesthood for 2000 years.
Did you know ...
Sacred vessels are made of gold or silver - or at least plated in these metals. It is because the contents are precious so we only use the best and also because these metals are very stable and don't react with, or contaminate, what they hold in any way.
Stewardship Thought ...
The disciples suggested that Jesus disperse the crowd so that they might individually seek food and lodging. The miracle of the feeding of the five thousand is Jesus' powerful reminder that when we share our gifts in His name, there is always more than enough!
Teachers have been busy with Personalised Plan (PP) meetings for students who are receiving extra help in their learning. Changes to the funding has meant that we can provide interventions to assist a large number of students acquire the essential learning they need in order to achieve their full potential in a number of areas. It has also meant we can provide extra support for our middle and top level students because teachers can spread their time around. Mrs Shaw and Mrs Taylor have been pivotal in this process and have developed the role and assistance given from scratch. We are very lucky to have them in this capacity this year. Mrs Cameron is also key to this process, managing all the bookings with Mrs Hole and the paperwork required to show we are complying with funding requirements. All the teachers are appreciative of their hard work, as am I, in assisting to cater for the individual needs of students even better than we usually do.
I had a wonderful time in Canberra with Year 5. We explored the Government buildings and processes, Questacon and the War Memorial. The children were a credit to you and their teachers. We had multiple positive comments about their behaviour and the students needed very few reminders from us – and they let us have a good night’s sleep! Thank you to all of you for your interest on Facebook. It was lovely to be able to share the experience with you.
The hall should be handed over to us on Monday. They installed the pedestrian gate today so it is a matter of testing everything and removing the last of the building site. As soon as we have our new procedures ready we can then access the area to practice, we’ll let you know so we can begin to use our new zones. The hall looks very good – we may even have the last assembly of the term there.
I hope you all have a lovely break with your children. I am taking the first week and a half next term as leave. After their first contract period, principals can take some leave to do a course for Faith or Leadership development. I am choosing Faith and going on a pilgrimage through the Lands of St Paul to see all those places St Paul preached and the communities he wrote his letters to – Corinth, Phillippi and Thessalonika to name a few. Mrs Fazio will be in charge while I am away, assisted by the leadership team. I’ll see you all again on Wednesday of Week 2.
God Bless,
Michelle Rolfe
