STAFF SPIRITUALITY DAY - MONDAY 28 November 2022
All staff working off site - thank you for making alternative arrangements for your children.
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is very difficult to believe that this will be the second last newsletter for the 2022 school year. As the end of the school year rapidly approaches, we have so much to look forward to over the coming three weeks.
The end of the year gives us the opportunity to reflect and come together to celebrate all that has been. We ask for God’s continued blessings on our families, our school community, our parish and our wider community.
The liturgical season of Advent commences on Sunday, 27 November 2022.
Advent means “coming” – the coming of God among us; but the season of Advent is not merely a preparation to celebrate the historical birth of Jesus as a baby in Bethlehem. This is important, as one aspect of the revelation of Jesus.
Jesus is Emmanuel, meaning, God-with-us, in three ways; in the past, in the present and in the future. The Lord Jesus is with us now, but in another sense he is yet to come, in his fullness, as the God of power, truth, justice and peace for all people. He will come to judge our response, yet we look forward to his return in glory, the final manifestation of God’s covenant of love with his creation, with joy.
Our reflection and prayer during this season should be hopeful – concentrating more on the future than on the past, and on how we can make that future present now. For the Christian, thinking of the future involves not only hope but enthusiasm, looking forward eagerly to Christ’s return. It also means patience as we wait and watch. It implies readiness to change as needs be, preparing the way for the Lord, responding to his initiative of love.
Over the coming weeks, in the lead up to the most joy-filled moment of all, the birth of Jesus at Christmas, let us continue to look for and find moments of joy in our everyday lives. This inner joy comes from our love for God and the love of our neighbour.
When we find these moments of joy that can be as simple as a smile, a greeting or we spread and share this joy with others.
May the coming weeks provide us with opportunities to find and share these moments of joy with others.

Semester 2 Reports
The teachers are currently very busy working on Semester 2 reports. These reports will be released to parents, via Compass, on Wednesday 7th December (Week 9). This report is a reflection of what your child has achieved during Term 3 and Term 4. Student achievement has been assessed, and will be reported to, across all Key Learning Areas. The students will receive an overall grade (A-E) in each of these areas. Three learning gains will be highlighted for Religion, English and Maths. The Semester 2 reports will also highlight some points to focus on as Areas of Growth in both English and Maths.
The explanation of the common grade scale (A-E) that the teachers reflect upon when assigning these grades is outlined below:
The teachers also reflect on and comment on the student’s effort in each of these subject areas. The effort scale used to make this judgement is shown below:
The Kindergarten (Early Stage 1) report is of a different format and will provide information of where students are sitting with their learning across each Key Learning Area. This ranking is explained below:
Please take the time to celebrate the successes and discuss the areas to focus on for improvement with your child after this report is released. If you have any questions about the Semester 2 report please don’t hesitate to contact the school. There will also be an opportunity for you to talk to your child’s class teacher about their Semester 2 report after it is released if you would like to.
Looking forward to a productive and busy final few weeks of the year as a school community. Wishing you all a relaxing weekend before we head into Week 8 Term 4, it is hard to believe we are here already.

P & F DISCO - Thursday 24th November
Gratitude is extended to members of our P&F for the planning and organisation that has gone into making the disco planned for this evening such a success. Events like this do not just happen. These events take planning, organisation and time. We extend our thanks to those parents who have also nominated to be parent helpers at either the infants or primary disco (or both). We are looking forward to a wonderful evening of dancing and fun!
STAFF NEWS
We would like to extend our congratulations to Miss Hayley Gabrio, Miss Ainsley Northey, Miss Celeste Muvceska and Miss Nancy Fajloun who will be continuing at Our Lady Help of Christians next year. We also congratulate Miss Sabrina Nowak who is now a permanent member of the OLHC staff.
Further information will be shared in the next newsletter in relation to staffing arrangements for the 2023 school year.
ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT PARENT SURVEY
Each year we seek parent, staff and student input to prepare aspects of the Annual School Report. This year all parents have the opportunity, via an anonymous online survey, to provide input into areas affecting the education of their children and the general functioning of the school. All feedback is greatly valued and will assist in contributing not only to the preparation of the Annual School Report but also to future directions and school improvement initiatives.
We greatly value all feedback and suggestions from our community members as contributions will assist in the preparation of the Annual School Report and planning for 2023.
Please access the survey via the following link. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. This survey will close on Friday 25th November 2022.

STUDENTS NOT RETURNING TO OLHC IN 2023
If parents are aware that their child/ren will not be returning to Our Lady Help of Christians in 2023, we request that this information be provided to the school office as soon as possible.
This information will assist us with accommodating both new applications and students who are currently on our waiting list.
Please send an email to info@olhcdow.catholic.edu.au if your child/ren will not be returning to the OLHC school community in 2023.
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION - THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER 2022
We are looking forward to welcoming the newest members of our OLHC school community next Thursday 1st December 2022. This will be an opportunity for the Kinder 2023 students to experience the classroom, meet their teacher and spend time getting to know each other.
Parents will be asked to take their child to the kindergarten classrooms. This is a great opportunity for the Kinder students to spend time with their teacher and become familiar with some of the routines at OLHC. We look forward to welcoming the students in Kinder 2023 next week.
PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEES BY INSTALMENT – NEW FAMILIES TO OUR SCHOOL
School Fees are invoiced as an annual account, due for payment in full 30 days after invoicing. However, many families elect to pay their school fees by regular instalments and as a new family to our school, we would like to offer you this option. If wish to take up this offer, please complete a Request to Pay by Instalment Form which is available on the school’s website or from the school’s administration office. On completion of the request, either email it to instalments@dow.catholic.edu.au or submit at the school office. Following receipt of the request, instalments will be generated on your school fee account during the process of invoicing 2023 school fees. Your school fee statements are emailed to you and they will provide a list of scheduled payments and their due date.
IMPORTANT: Please note that if you currently have a child or children at another school in the Diocese and you are paying by instalments at this location, you will not need to complete another Request to Pay by Instalment. The instalment request carries over from school to school with the same frequency of payment e.g. weekly, fortnightly, etc.
EXISTING FAMILIES IN OUR SCHOOL WITH INSTALMENTS
If you are currently paying by instalments there is no need to complete another Request to Pay by Instalment as your request carries over from year to year unless you wish to amend the frequency of your payments e.g. weekly to fortnightly
EXISTING FAMILIES IN OUR SCHOOL WITHOUT INSTALMENTS
If you would like to pay school fees by instalments in 2023 and have previously not taken up this option for payment, please complete a Request to Pay by Instalment Form which is available on the school’s website or from the school’s administration office. On completion of the request either email it to instalments@dow.catholic.edu.au or submit at the school office. Following receipt of the request, instalments will be generated on your school fee account during the process of invoicing 2023 school fees. Your school fee statement will provide a list of scheduled payments and their due date depending on the frequency you have chosen e.g. Fortnightly, Monthly, etc.
IMPORTANT: Please note that if you currently have a child or children at another school in the Diocese and you are paying by instalments at this location, you will not need to complete another Request to Pay by Instalment. The instalment request carries over from school to school with the same frequency of payment eg Weekly, fortnightly, etc.
ASSEMBLY
Our next Assembly will be held on Friday 2 December 2022. Merit and Principal Awards will be presented. Congratulations to the following students who will be receiving a Principal's Award.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING (PB4L)
When students exhibit positive behaviour, by following our school rules, their name is written on a raffle ticket and is entered into a draw where two winners are selected at flag-raising on a Monday morning. The students receive a voucher for the Canteen which can be used for treats or put towards a lunch order. Congratulations to these winners:
