Dear Parents and Carers,
The above quote, by Henry Ford, pays tribute to the success experienced through collaboration, team work and working together. This type of team work happens here at OLHC on a daily basis, through the mutual trust and respect that parents and staff members have for each other through a mutual purpose - the student/child.
Our school community is indeed blessed through this supportive environment that enables students to develop and grow in their faith and learning. It has indeed been so positive, over the past term, to be able to welcome parents and grandparents back into our school community and share positive experiences that demonstrate working together.
At the enrolment of your child, parents are encouraged to work in close partnership with the school, to support the development of your child and work together to experience this success. As a school community, we continually strive to find ways to involve and engage with parents to support the learning that takes place at OLHC.
Through this commitment and partnership, children learn valuable life lessons in relation to working together, partnership, mutual trust and working towards a common goal. For me personally, this has been highlighted from several school events over the past ten weeks -
- St Mary of the Cross Mackillop Walkathon
This whole school event enabled students, staff and parents to come together and participate in a walk around our local area. This also enabled the generosity of sponsorship to contribute towards the completion of our school mosaic prayer space located on Playground Three.
- Father’s Day Stall
Thanks to the dedicated team work of members of the P&F, students were able to purchase a variety of special gifts to acknowledge, thank and celebrate the special male role models in their lives. This teamwork enabled the students to show gratitude to these significant men in their lives. Thank you for your support of this initiative.
- Bunnings BBQ - Saturday 10 September
What a wonderful event this was for our school community!
This is the first time that we have had the opportunity to utilise this barbeque as a fundraising event for the P&F at OLHC. It was a very successful day and optimised what can be achieved when we work together for a common purpose. Thank you to the parents who provided valuable support in the organisation of the day, to those who assisted at the BBQ on the day and also to the many families who supported the school by coming along to the BBQ and purchasing a sausage sandwich (or two!)
As we take a moment to look back on all that has been over this third term, we do so in a spirit of gratitude, giving thanks to God for all that has been. We indeed have so much to be grateful for. May the coming school holiday break provide the opportunity for you to spend some time with your children and enjoy a break from the normal routine.
Wishing you many blessings for the coming weeks.

PB4L - POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING
The consistency of following our school rules and procedures is important and over the end of this term and into the beginning of next term we will be explicitly teaching and going over these procedures with the students. With this in mind, we have a few reminders of these expectations, especially related to Afternoon Dismissal and Uniforms in the newsletter for your information as well. We appreciate your support of these procedures and expectations throughout the rest of the year.
AFTERNOON DISMISSAL
These are the dismissal points for students each afternoon. The students can be picked up via carline, parent pickup at the classroom, be picked up by their John Therry sibling, be taken up to the bus zone to catch their bus or walk home. Please adhere to the following arrangements for each of these dismissal procedures.
The current arrangements for John Therry dismissal state that the students wait to be picked up by their John Therry sibling outside the St Joachim hall where their brother or sister will walk down to collect them from. The current procedures for Pick Up via the car line are that the students will walk up to this area in their stage groups where they will remain seated while they are waiting and watching for their car to come through and to be picked up by their parent. If you wish to come into the school to pick your child up then the only option for this is Parent Pick Up from the Classroom. The procedures for this option are that you enter the school via the St Anne gate and wait around the flagpole area, back from the Kindergarten classrooms, until the bell goes at 2:45pm when you will walk down to their classroom area and pick up your child. Please note that you are not to park in our school car park and walk over to pick your child up from the carline area or the John Therry zone. We appreciate your support of these procedures and the staff will be reminding any parents picking up their child from carline or John Therry that the only option for parent pick up is via the St Anne gate.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Thank you for your ongoing support with following the OLHC School Uniform policy. The pride that the students take in wearing their school uniform correctly is a reflection of your support.
Until the end of Term 3, the students can choose to wear either their full winter or summer school uniform. From the beginning of Term 4 all students will be wearing their full summer school uniform.
In particular, the teachers will be checking that the student’s hair and earrings adhere to expectations. As stated in our uniform policy, girls' earrings must be plain gold or silver studs or sleepers (the sleepers must be able to be turned through the ear so they can’t have a clasp at the back).
Girls hair that is below shoulder length must be tied up and hair accessories to match the uniform may be worn.
Boys hair must be of an even length all over with no shaved sections or lines. Colouring of hair is not permitted. We appreciate your support with this and uniform house points are awarded each week to students who are following our uniform policy. The teachers will be reminding students who aren’t following any part of the uniform policy over the coming days and the school holidays is a good time to make sure these things are rectified. Please also ensure that your child’s sports shoes are predominantly white.
HOUSE POINTS WINNER
The House Points Term 3 will be finalised at the end of this week and the winning house will be announced next Monday morning, at Flag Raising. House Points have been awarded throughout the term to students for following the school rules (both in the classroom and on the playground), wearing the correct uniform, completing their homework and for borrowing from the library. The winning house will be awarded next week with a mufti day.
It was a pleasure to be able to help out at the P&F Bunnings Fundraiser BBQ last Saturday and to see so many students and families supporting this by either helping out or turning up to buy a sausage and a drink. Thank you for your support and it certainly helped to make this such a successful fundraising event. As we quickly approach the end of the term, I wish you all a restful and enjoyable holiday break, let’s hope we get to enjoy some beautiful spring weather.
Alison Fazio
Assistant Principal

On Monday 8 August 2022, OLHC held the St Mary MacKillop Walkathon. It was wonderful to have so many parents and friends join us for the walk.
We are so excited to announce that our walkathon raised: $3,234.
Thank you to our parents and friends who generously supported our Walkathon. This money will go towards the completion of our sacred space mosaic.
UNIFORM LABELLING
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL APPRAISAL - MRS ALISON FAZIO
Next term, Mrs Alison Fazio will undertake an appraisal and gain feedback in the role of Assistant Principal. This Appraisal process is an important platform for reflection on performance and achievement in the role of Assistant Principal, allowing for successes to be acknowledged and affirmed and areas for development to be identified and used for ongoing Performance and Development processes.
This process is designed for identifying areas of future growth and development for Mrs Fazio, as Assistant Principal. I invite you to complete the survey that has been distributed to all parents via email and appreciate your contribution to this important process.
CATHOLIC MISSION LAUNCH
As the Pope’s international mission agency, we respond to the call to love God and to love our neighbour by forming individuals and communities as missionary disciples of Jesus who share their faith in action and through prayer. We share in God’s mission to reach out, give life by sharing our personal and financial resources to: - proclaim the Gospel, - serve people in need, - act for peace, justice and creation; In partnership with local churches, so that all may have life in Christ.
This year in October, the focus for Mission Month is on the country in Africa, named Ethiopia. We are raising money to get goats to produce milk to make cheese, butter and more. We are also using donations to feed the goats. Activities will be planned during the month of October to help to raise much needed funds to support those people living in Ethiopia. More information will follow next term in relation to fundraising for Mission Month.
Steven Brticevich and Isabella Fazio attended the launch for World Mission Month with Mrs Webb at St Thomas More Church Ruse.

FATHER'S DAY STALL:
Thank you to all those who supported us by purchasing items from the Father’s Day Stall, it was a great success with $1,360 raised. A very big thanks to the parents who help out on the days and we hope all the dads, grandads and carers had a fabulous Father’s Day!
BUNNINGS BBQ:
The Bunnings BBQ was held on Saturday 10 September and was a great day, we sold out of sausages and had to source more supplies!
We were greatly helped by Ballards Butchers, Rosemeadow (we had people coming back for seconds so highly recommend their sausages!) and Coles Macarthur Square by their kind donations.
We raised $2,853.
A massive thank you to the parents and school staff who helped out both in preparation and on the day, and to the many families who came out and purchased a sausage sandwich to support our school.
The Canteen is open for lunch orders and over-the-counter sales of snacks and treats at Break 1 (11.00am - 11.30am). A price list is attached. Please support the Canteen in their endeavours to support our school community.
Lunch orders are required at the Canteen by 9.00am. Please write your child's name, class and what they wish to order on a paper bag and enclose the correct money, if possible.
