Term 3 Week 7 - Thursday 1 September 2022

Stewardship thought....

In the gospel, Jesus warns us not to give in to hopes of repayment, but to
give open-handedly to the poor and needy. That sort of giving mirrors the
bountiful giving of God, and Jesus assures us it is blessed indeed!

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we prepare to celebrate Fathers' Day this weekend we wish Happy Fathers' Day to all Our Lady Help of Christians fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers and uncles! Thank you to our P&F for supporting our students to celebrate this special day with the special men in their families.

This celebration gives us reason to pause, to pray for, and to reflect on the Fathers’ we honour. On this Fathers' Day, we celebrate, congratulate, and pray for the men who continue to reflect the Divine qualities of fatherhood as they lovingly establish, nourish, and maintain their families. Fathers are a blessing, and we thank them for blessing us with lives of dedication, endurance, and love.

Every father is a work in progress and each father is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all pattern for fatherhood. Fathers-to-be, have often developed a clear sense of the kind of parent they intend to become. They know, at least, what kind of parent they don’t want to be. But the first days after a child’s birth, these thoughts are challenged by the realisation that fatherhood is a real-life role that is influenced daily by the unexpected.  A new father, in a sense, embarks on a pilgrimage of sorts. As the child grows older, a father is repeatedly challenged to understand, support and always love his child, who, it turns out, is nothing less than the complex web of humanity that all of us are.

The pilgrimage into fatherhood has one big starting point followed by a thousand new starting points along the way. The journey is long. Over time a father finds himself tugged at and urged along both in welcome and unwelcome ways. The journey into fatherhood challenges a man to grow and change in ways he could not imagine on the day of his first child’s birth. Slowly, life transforms for parents ~ fathers and mothers.

A father’s pilgrimage is a vocation, calling him to discover each child as a unique individual and to nurture that. But he discovers something else too. Little by little, astonishingly, he discovers himself along the way ~ someone whose hidden gifts have been unearthed by his children.

We remember and gratefully keep in our prayers all the Our Lady Help of Christians fathers and father figures as they continue their daily pilgrimage.

May we pause, pray for, reflect and remember those Fathers who have loved, nurtured and inspired us. May we also pray for those Father’s who are enjoying their heavenly reward.

We pray to  Mary Help of Christians, to intercede for us and bless those special men in our lives who instil love, gentleness, patience, compassion and joy.

Spring.jpg

It is exciting to welcome Spring today and hopefully it will bring the beginning of some warmer weather. It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of Week 7 with only three weeks of Term 3 left. Congratulations to MacKillop House who won the house points and the ice block reward last week. It has been a very close race this term and the students have many opportunities to collect house points in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing which House team wins the points this term. This will be announced at the beginning of Week 10 with a mufti day reward at the end of the term for the winning house.

Thank you to the students and parents who continue to support us by following the Uniform Policy. A reminder about which earrings girls are allowed to wear to school. Girls are only allowed to wear plain gold or silver sleepers (these must be able to be turned through the ear without a clasp on the back) and studs. Thank you to the students who are following this expectation. As we move into a transition of uniforms over the next few weeks please make sure your child is either dressed in their full winter uniform or summer uniform not a combination of both. All students will be back in their summer uniform from the beginning of Term 4.

A very Happy Father’s day to all fathers and those who take on fathering roles in our lives. We pray that they will continue to be guided by St Joseph’s example of love, support and guidance. We especially keep in our thoughts and prayers those fathers in heaven.

Catholic schools from the Diocese of Wollongong are invited to take part in The Christmas Story, 2022 - a visual arts exhibition and competition for children in Stage Three. This is an initiative of the Catholic Education Offices in Wollongong and Sydney to celebrate and explore children’s creative and artistic ability in illustrating the Christmas story.

Students in Years 5 and 6 have been working very hard on their Christmas Art. We would like to invite our community to attend an Art Gallery showcasing this work from 8:30am-9:00am on Friday 9 September 2022. This will be held in the Year 5 and 6 classrooms.

It will replace the use of zip-lock bags/envelopes/paperbags used for lunch orders, as well as the packaging used to hold the food in the lunch order. These lunch wallets are available in 7 bright colours - blue, yellow, pink, green, purple, grey, red. These are priced at  $11.00 each

R U OK?  Day - Thursday 8 September 2022

Next week, on Thursday 8 September, is nationally known as R U OK? Day. This day  is a reminder that every day is a day to empower people to meaningfully connect, start a conversation, and lend support.

The theme this year is 'Ask - Are you OK? No qualifications needed.'

Life's ups and downs happen to all of us. So, chances are someone you know might be struggling. Your genuine support can make a difference whatever they are facing, big or small.

More information can be found at
