Dear Parents and Carers,
It was wonderful to gather together as a community of faith and celebrate our school feast day on Tuesday. Our Lady Help of Christians - Mary had the important role of being the Mother of the Saviour, Jesus. Mary is also our spiritual mother too. As a school community we gathered together with parents to celebrate the Eucharist as a community of faith. It was wonderful to see so many of our parents present at this Eucharistic celebration. Our thanks go to Fr Sarkis, who as Parish Priest, provides enormous spiritual guidance and support to our school and parish community. We also thank Miss O’Sullivan, our Religious Education Coordinator and the school Religious Education team for the planning and organisation that went into the Mass.
Following this, we welcomed a large number of parents, grandparents and friends into the school. Due to the pandemic, this has been the first time for many years that we have been able to welcome so many parents into our school community. It was wonderful to see so many parents engaging with their child/children and having the opportunity to see their child/children’s classrooms.
Some photographs have been included with this newsletter that form a wonderful tribute of Feast day celebrations. Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to take time out of their day to join together with the students and staff to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians.
SAVE THE DATE - PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DATES
Parents are advised that the following dates have been set aside as Staff Professional Learning dates. Thank you for your making alternative arrangements for your child on these dates -

Monday 28 November 2022 (Term Four) - Staff Spirituality Day
Jane Webb
PRINCIPAL
It was a beautiful day on Tuesday for our Feast Day and it was wonderful to be able to welcome so many parents and family members into our school to help us to celebrate this special day. Thank you to Miss O’Sullivan for planning such a lovely Mass for us and to the teachers for their preparation with open classrooms. I know the students loved being able to share their lunch and learning with you all.
Year 3 and Year 5 students have completed their NAPLAN Assessments over the last couple of weeks, finishing with the Numeracy Assessment last Wednesday. Thank you to the Year 3 and 5 teachers for supporting the students through this process and to Miss O’Sullivan for all of her technical support and for helping with the catch up sessions. The NAPLAN results will be received by parents and the school later in the year.
We are at the halfway point of Term 2 and the House Points are being tallied at the end of this week to be announced at Flag Raising next Monday. The winning house, who is currently in first place, will receive their ice block reward next Friday 3 June 2022. The students will continue to be awarded house points for wearing the correct uniform, completing homework, borrowing from the library and following the school rules in the classroom and on the playground.
As a friendly reminder, please remember that parents are not to park in the school carpark of an afternoon and pick up their children from the Pick Up area. If you want to pick up your child you must park on the street and walk into the school via the St Anne gate and pick up your child from outside their classroom. Otherwise, you may drive through the carpark at the back of the Church and pick up your child from the pick up zone without needing to get out of your car. We thank you for your support of these procedures.

Assistant Principal
As a school community we co-created the following artwork. Students and staff drew self-portraits and these were put together to create Our Feast Day Artwork.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Feast Day on Tuesday. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community to gather for Mass.
Our students were very excited to welcome you into their classrooms and show you some of the learning they have been doing. We are very appreciative of the time you made to join us for our Feast Day celebrations.

We recognise this event may present challenges for school families and we are committed to doing all we can to minimise disruption for your child. Students will be supervised by available staff for the day. If your child is away on Friday 27 May this will not impact on their attendance. Thank you in advance for your support.
THE SCHOOL CANTEEN WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY 27 May 2022.
If your child is attending school on this day, please ensure you send them with lunch and snack foods.
MORNING SUPERVISION
Parents are reminded that student supervision commences each morning at 8.00 am.
Although we understand many parents have work commitments it is important to note that although a few staff may be on the premises early, gates for students to enter the school do not open until 8.00am. Students remain the responsibility of parents if they arrive prior to this time.
All students arriving prior to 8:00 am are responsible for maintaining safe behaviour.
SPORT UNIFORM CONSULTATION - POLO SHIRT
At a recent Parents and Friends meeting, discussion was held about the OLHC Sports Polo Shirt. The discussion was around changing the design and predominant colour from white, to make this easier to clean and maintain. Mrs Webb contacted the uniform supplier, Lowes, who supplied two alternative styles for parent consideration.
Thank you to the P&F Executive, who have put together a Google survey for your feedback. This link can be found in this newsletter along with design samples.
Parents are invited to the next General P&F Meeting, on Monday 6 June 2022, where this item will be further discussed.
A ZOOM link can also be found for this meeting in the newsletter.
ASSEMBLY
Our next Assembly will be held on Friday 3 June 2022. Merit and Principal Awards will be presented. Congratulations to the following students who will be receiving a Principal's Award.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING (PB4L)
When students exhibit positive behaviour, by following our school rules, their name is written on a raffle ticket and is entered into a draw where two winners are selected at flag-raising on a Monday morning. The students receive a voucher for the Canteen which can be used for treats or put towards a lunch order. Congratulations to these winners:

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please do no hesitate to contact Miss Mudie.

Congratulations to Raemon from Year 6 who represented OLHC at the Diocesan Cross Country Selection Trials on Tuesday 24 May 2022.. He competed well and showed great sportsmanship and determination.
We would also like to congratulate all the other students who were selected to represent OLHC in Cross Country, unfortunately due to weather and track conditions the Diocesan Carnival had to be cancelled.

Unfortunately CEO Wollongong Sport, has had to make the difficult decision to not run the Netball Gala Day this term. At this stage they are uncertain if it will be rescheduled next term or cancelled. A notification will be sent out once the Sports Co-ordinator informs the school.
