Last Sunday's Gospel ...
Last Sunday we celebrated Pentecost. Jesus had ascended to heaven and the apostles and Our Lady were all together wondering how to carry out the mission Jesus had left them. They were also scared. The Holy Spirit, however, came in a physical form of wind and fire and gave them what they needed. The Holy Spirit also gave us the gifts we need to carry out the mission given to us all at Baptism. We just have to open and use them.
Did you know ...
A number of the apostles - St Peter and St Andrew to name two, were executed by crucifixion. The St Andew's cross, on the flag of Scotland, which forms part of the Union Jack, is also a part of our flag, is so named because of the 'x' shaped cross upon which St Andrew was crucified.
Stewardship Thought ...
One miracle of Pentecost was that, despite their diversity, each listener heard God's word in his or her own language. As Christian stewards sharing the gifts and talents poured out on us by the Holy Spirit, we too, will be empowered to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters today.
We welcomed Bishop Peter to our parish for Confirmation a week ago. He remembered that this time last year we were looking forward to being in our new church for the next one. Being the first in the new church made it a little extra special for the students. It was lovely to see so many families there as well as staff, nearly all of whom attended. The sacramental co-ordinator, Mrs McGarrity, and her team, did a wonderful job preparing the students and Mr Vincent provided a valuable connection between the school and the parish so the Year 6 teachers could also reinforce the lessons with the school based Confirmation unit. We are very lucky to have a parish and school that work so closely together.
The scaffolding has begun to come down meaning the hall isn’t too far from completion. I have been meeting with gardeners to landscape the entrances and try to have everything completed around the same time. There will be some statues and other features incorporated into the entrances – you may have already noticed some new statues! Once all is complete we will be having an opening and blessing. We will let you know more details about this when we have some planning in place. We have a little money saved from last year’s walk-a-thon for religious icons around the school and this money will go towards these projects along with funds raised this year.
The P&F are sending a survey to see where you would like to see money they raise spent in the school. They are trying to include all parents in having a say, even if you are unable to attend P&F meetings. Please let them know your thoughts because your opinion is important to us.
I will be travelling to Canberra with Year 5 next week. It is an exciting excursion – very busy and full of learning. For some students, it is their first night away from home. The students all cope very well with this because they see their parents on the morning of one day and the evening of the next. They learn a lot of independence – like putting sheets on a bed (we do help them!) and come back with some new skills as well as the school learning. It will be cold!
Thank you for all the positive feedback about Facebook. We will keep posting to keep you in the loop. Let us know of any other means of communication that will help you feel more involved in your child’s school journey.
God Bless,
Michelle Rolfe

With the new hall nearing completion, the School-wide Positive Behaviours for Learning (SPB4L) team have been hard at work putting together new procedures for catching the bus, the drop-off and pick up zone and the John Therry waiters line. We have to wait for the last of the concrete to be poured and the awning to be finished so we can access the new area. We will then do some practice runs with the children to see how well the new procedures run. After we are all ready and thinking we have it right, we will let you know with maps and times so you are comfortable with what to do. We’ll let you know the start date too. Hopefully it will leave the road clear and provide a more efficient system. We will also be protected from the weather.

Corpus Christi Procession
The Parish will be hosting the Corpus Christi Procession for this region on Sunday 23rd June at 2.30pm. Please make every effort to participate in this important liturgical event when we give visible witness to our Catholic belief in the Real Presence of Or Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
Parish children who made their First Holy Communion last year are invited to lead the Corpus Christi Procession as Flower Strewers (girls) and Escorts (boys). It is a great privilege for your child to have this opportunity offered to them in their life and one that they will reflect on as an adult. Children will wear their First Communion clothes but girls will not wear veils but can have white ribbons or flowers in their hair. You must be present for the practice on Friday 21st June from 3.30pm-4.30pm in the church. A note has been sent home to nominate your child's participation.
Rose and flower petals are needed for our Corpus Christi Procession. If you have any, please bring them to the church on the weekend of this event so they can be placed in baskets for the flower strewers. Thank you.
