Stewardship Thought ....
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Sunday, 5th September, we paused to give thanks and celebrate those special men in our lives, who we call father and grandfather. Although it looked quite different this year, Father’s Day can be a useful time for all men to reflect on what it means to be a father or to have a fatherly influence on children.
Social commentators often remark that the art of fatherhood has been lost in the modern era. The media presents fathers as the less capable and less responsible half of the parenting team.
Christian fathers can never accept any reduction in the importance of their role. Guided by their faith, they should take the role of their vocation seriously.
Fatherhood is a gift from God, and with this great gift, also comes great responsibility.
Although being a responsible father requires hard work, there are also great rewards to be gained.
The following reflection captures the many and varied men who carry the title of father, all of whom we celebrate and give thanks for. We are also mindful of those father’s who are no longer physically with us, who now have reached their heavenly reward. These father’s watch over, guide and provide loving memories of times cherished. We pray for all father’s that they may be true examples of their vocation of love, trust and integrity.
R U OK? Day - Thursday 9th September
Today is nationally known as R U OK? Day. This day is a reminder that every day is a day to empower people to meaningfully connect, start a conversation, and lend support.
The theme this year is 'Are they really OK? Ask them today.'
Life's ups and downs happen to all of us. So, chances are someone you know might be struggling. Your genuine support can make a difference whatever they are facing, big or small.
Particularly, in this time of lockdown, people are encouraged to check in with neighbours, extended family and friends and begin the conversation.
More information can be found at R U OK?
So, don’t wait until someone’s visibly distressed or in crisis. Make a moment meaningful and ask them how they’re really going.
New videos are available that encourage everyone to stay connected and make asking R U OK? a part of their everyday.
With Gratitude
On behalf of the OLHC staff, I would like to express my ongoing gratitude to each of you, as parents, in what has been a very challenging time.
We are so grateful for your ongoing and continued support in assisting your child to learn at home, wherever possible.
The staff really values the time that you have prioritised in support of your child/ren with accessing remote learning tasks. We are also very aware of the fact that many of you are also juggling your own work commitments and responsibilities at this time.
We hope that the upcoming student holiday break will provide some time to spend engaging in looking after the wellbeing of your child/ren as well as yourself.
We will continue to provide updated information about the return to school next term, as this becomes available from the NSW Government and the Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong.
Stay Safe, Stay Connected, Stay Home.
I take this moment to reflect on what this term has been and the progress we have made together as a school community. Obviously, it would have been hard for us to imagine at the beginning of the term that we would have continued learning from home for the whole term. However, we have travelled this journey together and know that we will come back to school next term remotely with the hope that we will return to face-to-face teaching throughout the term.
I wish to take this opportunity to express my thanks, firstly, to Mrs Webb for her continual support and guidance throughout this challenging time. My thanks is also extended to all of the teachers who have been working tirelessly planning and organising all of the work for the students as well as providing feedback and support each and every day. They have continued to collaborate with each other professionally, albeit via zoom, in order to provide the best possible learning for the students given the difficult circumstances we are all in. Thank you also to Mrs Busch, Mrs Powell, Mrs Murphy and Mrs Johnston who have been providing supervision to the students of essential workers who have been coming to school. We are extremely grateful for all they have been doing to support the school community during this time.
Of course remote learning wouldn’t be possible without the support of all of you, our parents. You have supported your children in their engagement with their school work all term as well as ensuring they engage with the class zooms each week which has been a wonderful way for us all to continue to connect with each other. Finally, thank you to the students who have faced this challenge with energy and have completed their remote learning work each day.
I hope the upcoming holiday break brings the respite we all need from remote learning and I pray you all find quality time to spend together with your family and that you all stay safe and well until we meet again (remotely) in Term 4.
Take care.

Swimming Lessons
After much deliberation and reviewing of the current health and safety directives from the CEO in relation to COVID-19, we have, unfortunately, decided to cancel:
- Swimming Lessons for Kinder to Year 4 students (Term 4 2021)
This cancellation is due to the current and ever-changing climate of COVID-19. This decision has been made with the safety of all students and staff involved in mind.
The Swimming Program for K-4 has been billed as part of the 2021 School Fees. The cost of the program will be credited back to your school fee account. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
