From the Gospel ....
Matthew 28:16-20
Jesus sends his disciples to make disciples of all nations
The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity invites us to remember that God has revealed Himself to us as one God in three Persons. As Jesus departed from his disciples, He shared with them the power to make disciples of all nations. He taught his disciples to invite others to share in the life of the blessed Trinity by sharing with others the gift of Baptism. This continues to be the mission of the Church.
Each of us who has been baptised shares in the life of the blessed Trinity and also shares in the Church’s mission of inviting others to share in God’s love.
We recall that whenever we pray the Sign of the Cross, we are reminding ourselves that we are united with God through our Baptism and share in the life of the blessed Trinity.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Teachers are currently in the process of completing Semester One (Terms One and Two) reports.
Students in Years One – Six will receive this academic report that provides parents with a summary of learning gains as well as areas for improvement for the first two terms of the school year.
Parents will be provided with the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher during Week 10 – from Monday 21st June with more information provided in the coming weeks as to how to book a meeting time via COMPASS. Kindergarten parents will also be invited to meet with Mrs Hickey to receive some feedback into your child’s learning and progress for the first half of the year.
Reading your child’s school report.
On Wednesday 16th June, parents will be able to access these reports via COMPASS. This will enable parents to see the progress that students have made over the first semester of the school year.
Parents will be provided with information in the areas that their child has shown improvement over the first semester of the school year. These areas are referred to as Learning Gains.
These Learning Gains will be identified for Religious Education, English and Mathematics. The purpose of identifying these Learning Gains is to report to parents about the areas that your child is able to complete independently and has achieved in the first semester.
When reading the report, it is important to celebrate these Learning Gains with your child. It is important to share these with your child, as they are the areas that your child has shown improvement.
Also in your child’s report parents can expect to see a section that identifies Areas for Growth. This aspect of the student report covers areas that the classroom teacher would like to see your child continue to improve with. Similar to the Learning Gains, these Areas for Growth will be reported on for English and Mathematics.
The Areas for Growth section indicates the areas that the classroom teacher would like your child to continue to develop in. These are the areas that your child may still be working towards demonstrating new concepts and learning. These areas may continue to be a focus for your child as they move into the second half of the school year.
Finally, your child’s report will also include a General Comment. This comment identifies other areas of the curriculum that your child has engaged with during the first half of the year. It also includes how they have approached new learning and their attitude to learning.
So when you receive your child’s report you can expect to see -
Learning Gains – These comments use syllabus text to capture the new learning the student has demonstrated in the reporting period
Areas for Growth – These comments use syllabus text to capture the new learning the student will encounter as the ‘next step’ on their learning path
General Comment – The longer, final comment is written by the teacher and may cover a range of academic and non-academic areas
It is important to remember to:
Discuss the report with your son or daughter talking about strengths first before looking at areas that need improvement. Ask for their opinion about how they performed and discuss their concerns.
After reports are read and discussed celebrate your child’s efforts with a special activity or treat. In this way you will recognise and celebrate the progress made this year.
As always, if you need any clarification after reading your child’s report, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Teachers will be available to meet to discuss your child’s Semester One report later this term.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the teachers for their professionalism and commitment to the learning of their students. Teachers strive to meet the needs of every student in their class and will give generously of their time in making themselves available to discuss these reports with parents in Week 10.
200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia
The National Catholic Education Commission named Monday 24th May as a national day of celebration of 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia. To mark this occasion Bishop Brian invited staff and students from Catholic Education in the Diocese of Wollongong to gather with him and the wider community, to celebrate a special Mass at the Co-Cathedral in Wollongong. It was my pleasure to attend this special Mass with our school captains, Emerson Hickey and William Shearer. Emerson and William proudly and reverently represented our school, including processing in at the beginning of Mass. The procession was in order of when each school opened, with the first schools in our diocese being St John’s and St Patrick’s, Campbelltown. Our Lady Help of Christians opened in 1989. What a wonderful celebration of Catholic Education in our diocese!
House Points
Congratulations to Ingham for winning the Athletics Carnival, it was a wonderful day and the competitive spirit and behaviour of all students was commendable. These house points will be added to the Term 2 House Point tally and the winning house colour will be announced at Flag Raising in Week 10. This house will be awarded a mufti day during the last week of the term.
Winter Uniform
The students will continue to wear their winter uniform throughout Term 2 and 3. The girl’s winter school tunic can be worn with grey tights or long socks pulled to just below the knee. Both boys and girls wear the OLHC tie with their winter uniform. The school jumper (or the sports jacket on sports days) must be the first item worn for extra warmth during winter. Outer jackets (parkas) may be worn but must be removed in the classroom. Scarves and gloves may also be worn to and from school to provide extra warmth. Similarly, these must be removed throughout the day and must be of school colours (maroon or grey). Please remember that sports socks must be worn above the ankle. Thank you for your continued support in following the school uniform policy, the students certainly wear their uniform with pride.
SPOTLIGHT ON RELIGION
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Tomorrow, Friday 4th June, is our Winter Woolies mufti day. Students can wear casual clothes for a gold coin donation. This money will be forwarded, on behalf of the school community, to St Vincent de Paul. (Please note: students are to wear appropriate clothing and covered in shoes).
As part of the day, students will also participate in liturgies run by Year 5. Through the liturgies, Year 5 will be informing their peers about homelessness and the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Feast Day Wrap
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians last week. The students were so excited to share their learning with you! It was a wonderful week and we appreciate the time so many people gave up to be with us for the various celebrations. To view some of the highlights from the week, please click on the link:
Sacrament of Confirmation
Please keep in your prayers, the students from our school and parish, who will be making their Confirmation on Saturday 12th June.
Late and Early Leave Students
Parents and care-givers are reminded that if their children are late to school they must accompany their child to the office and sign them in. Parents are not to go directly to the classroom or go to the classroom to drop off or pick up left behind items or to check on their child. Please inform the office and they will attend to this. Parents must leave directly from the office via the gate in the staff car-park.
If you are picking your children up early, if possible, send a note to the classroom teacher, or telephone the office, so that your child can be ready to go when you arrive at the office.
Thank you for your understanding of this - it is a distraction for all students if parents are outside the classroom.
Semester One Reports
School reports for the first semester (Terms 1 and 2) will be available for students in Years One - Six through Compass on Wednesday 16th June. Kindergarten do not receive a Semester One report.
Co-curricular Awards
These Awards will be presented at the final assembly for the term on Friday 25th June. Co-curricular Awards are given to students who have contributed to our school community outside the normal classroom setting, such as gala days and sport activities through the diocese.
Nude Food Fridays
Every Friday students are asked to bring in a rubbish free lunch. This way, we can work together to reduce the amount of rubbish we send to landfill. This means no zip lock or plastic bags, cling wrap, foil, paper bags and simply any pre-packaged food items. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch in durable and re-usable containers or wrapping. House points will be awarded for students with waste free lunches.
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L)
When students exhibit positive behaviour, by following our school rules, their name is written on a raffle ticket and is entered into a draw where two winners are selected at flag-raising on a Monday morning. The students receive a voucher for the Canteen which can be used for treats or put towards a lunch order. Congratulations to these winners:
Mary Camilleri (6M - Rose), Jack Harrison (4M - Rose),
Marise Kosema (2M - Ingham), Olivia Smith (6M - MacKillop).

Newsletter Translation
Did you realise that the Schoolzine Newsletter platform allows for the Newsletter to be translated into any language? Please follow the prompts from the attached flyer for further information.
Use of School Bubblers
Parents are advised that the school bubblers can be used by students. However, it is recommended that students continue to bring a water bottle from home.
We also have a refilling station that the students can access during the school day to refill their drink bottles.
Please ensure that drink bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Student Absence
Letters to request reasons for a child's absence will be sent home on a fortnightly basis. Please provide an explanation for the absence and sign off the letter and return it to the office as soon as possible. If you think the absence is incorrect, please note this on the letter.
Parents may also open the Compass app and provide an explanation through there.
Just after 10.00am, on a school day, an alert will automatically be sent to you to advise if your child has been marked absent. You can provide an absence reason via this alert as well. Thank you.
Celebrations and Sharing of Food
We are continuing with the request that parents/care-givers not send in birthday cakes or food to share with the class. We understand that this is something that the children enjoy, however, we need to maintain controlled safety and hygiene procedures in the school. If you would like to send in something to acknowledge and celebrate your child’s birthday, you are able to send in packaged goods only (eg, packets of Maltesers, small wrapped chocolate bars etc such as a Freddo Frogs).
Compass App
This app should be downloaded so you can be kept up to date with the latest events and information from the school. This app is also used for distribution of the Newsletter. Please download the app from your relevant store. For more information please see the attached flyer "Accessing the Compass App".

We are in the process of making some changes to the constitution. This includes the frequency of meetings, the requirements of how/where the meetings are held and the number required for a quorum.
Clothing Pool
The Clothing Pool is generally open each Wednesday between 8.00am and 8.20am. Parents may now come on site but before moving to this area, please sign in at the office. If you cannot make this day or time, please contact the office and let them know what you require and these will be sent home to you if the items are available.

If this sound like it would suit you, please come along!
The Canteen is open for over-the-counter sales of snacks and treats at Break 1 (11.00am - 11.30am). A price list is attached. Please support the Canteen in their endeavours to support our school community.
Lunch orders are required at the Canteen by 9.00am. Please write your child's name, class and what they wish to order on a paper bag and enclose the correct money, if possible.
The Canteen is run by Made Fresh. Should you have a need to contact the Canteen, please email Maria at "made.fresh@yahoo.com" or telephone 0422 469 489.
