Kindergarten 2022 Applications - OPEN NOW
Click below to access a CEDoW school enrolment package. Please let extended family and friends know that we are currently enrolling for Kindergarten 2022. Enrolment forms can also be collected from the school office. Children will be eligible for enrolment in Kindergarten if they have turned 5 prior to 31st July.
Forms are required back at school by Thursday 1st April. Following the return of the completed enrolment application an interview will be organised with Father Sarkis and Mrs Webb for next term. If you download your form from the Catholic Education website, please also include a family photograph with the application.
The Lenten readings during the last week or so have centred firmly on the concepts of forgiveness, compassion and mercy. The following quote from last week’s Second reading from the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians resonated strongly with me.
"We are God’s work of art, created in Christ Jesus to live the good life as from the beginning he had meant us to live it."
Our school community is truly amazing and abundantly blessed. We are comprised of energetic and spirit filled members who daily go above and beyond the call of duty, with little regard for accolades. Despite the ideal described by St Paul, as human beings living within a community, we must all acknowledge that, despite our best efforts or intentions, we can sometimes get things wrong or fail to please all those with a vested interest. Please be assured that whenever difficulties arise the staff of OLHC will do their very best to reach a mutually agreeable resolution. Please rest assured that we are always on the ‘same team’ and whenever a problem arises the best way forward to finding a solution is always by accessing the collective wisdom available through respectful interactions and mutual support.
Dear Parents and Carers,
** SAVE THE DATE **
STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY
MONDAY 19th APRIL
Students are not required to attend school on this day.
NAPLAN - National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy
NAPLAN is a nationwide measure through which parents, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.
NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing against national standards in literacy and numeracy and over time.
The tests provide an important contribution to monitoring and evaluating the performance of schools and school systems in these fundamental capabilities. They also provide schools, states and territories with information about how education approaches are working, the areas to be prioritised for improvement, and those schools requiring support in the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy.
Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the NAPLAN assessments during 11th – 21st May 2021.
A NAPLAN Online – information for parents and carers information sheet is attached below:
Communication
Regular two-way communication is encouraged at OLHC and this can occur informally on a day-to-day basis. On occasions, particular concerns may need to be discussed in more depth in order to be resolved. We recommend the following steps as a guide to assist in such circumstances:
- First contact should be made with the teacher involved. In order to do justice to any issue and to respect the input of all parties, it is important that an appointment is made for these discussions to occur at a mutually convenient time. Parents are requested not to approach staff while they are on duty to discuss concerns, as the focus for staff at these times must remain upon maintaining their duty of care obligations.
- Others who may be able to assist in resolving concerns also include the Principal and Assistant Principal.
Respectful interactions are foundational to a positive working relationship and it is essential that confidentiality regarding discussions between parents and the school be maintained at all times.
2021 P&F Executive Positions
At the last meeting, the 2021 P&F Executive positions were declared open for the OLHC Parents and Friends Committee. The Principal, Mrs Webb proceeded to seek nominations for all the positions.
Congratulations and thanks to the following parents who nominated to form the OLHC Executive for 2021.

Assembly - Friday 19th March - Feast of St Joseph
Parents are welcome to join us at our next whole school assembly on Friday 19th March from 2.00pm.
This will be the final assembly for the term. At the assembly, classroom merit and Principal’s awards will be presented.
As it is the Feast Day of St Joseph, classes will share their learning about St Joseph during the assembly.
One of the most important things your child can do to achieve academic success is also one of the most basic: going to school every day.
In fact, research has shown that your child's attendance record may be the biggest factor influencing their academic success.
By making your child's school attendance a priority, you will be taking an important step in supporting your child's present and future school success as well as setting a good example of the positive habit of punctuality.
Please ensure your child is at school prior to the first bell each day as this will set them up for success for a day of learning. The following infographic contains interesting information about the importance of school attendance. Please do not hesitate to contact the school should you need help or advice related to maintaining the regular attendance of your child.

Morning Drop Off
In the morning we still have the same two drop off points, drop off via the John Therry car park and through the St Anne gate. With the change of restrictions this week, parents are now able to walk their child into the school (through the St Anne gate). Alternatively, you can let your child walk into school through the gate themselves. If you choose to walk in, please keep in mind that it is a quick drop off, outside the Kindergarten classrooms, say goodbye and your child will walk onto the playground themselves. This is for the duty of care of all of the other students who are on the playground in the morning. If you arrive before 8:15am you will drop your child at the steps outside the St Anne hall and say goodbye to them there. The St Anne gate is closed each morning at 8:30am so if you arrive after this time you must enter through the car park school gate and walk your child to the office to sign them in there.
Afternoon Dismissal
These changes are also in place for Afternoon Pick Up. We still have the regular dismissal points of Pick Up, John Therry and Bus which remain under the same procedures. You also now have the option to pick up your child from their classroom area in the afternoon. When you arrive in the afternoon please walk into the school via the St Anne gate and wait in the waiting area outside the St Anne hall or in the area around the front gate and flag posts. We ask that you wait until the bell rings at 2:45pm before you move from this area to collect your child. If your child is in Kindergarten you are able to pick them up from their classroom. Stage 1, 2 and 3 have a waiting area outside their classrooms where you will pick them up. The students won’t be walked out to the St Anne gate to meet you any more, you will need to walk in to collect them. If your child walks home they will walk with their teacher out to the Pick Up zone and then continue walking down the path and out through the St Anne gate.
With these new changes, we ask that you continue to keep in mind social distancing and keep this drop off and pick up to a quick and smooth process. I would like to say a huge big thank you to you all for your cooperation this week as we all became familiar with these changes. I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow at the Cross Country Carnival, at Assembly next week and at the Athletics Carnival in Week 9.

Student Absence
Letters to request reasons for a child's absence will be sent home on a weekly basis. Please provide an explanation for the absence and sign off the letter and return it to the office as soon as possible. If you think the absence is incorrect, please note this on the letter.
Parents may also open the Compass app and provide an explanation through there.
Just after 10.00am, on a school day, an alert will automatically be sent to you to advise if your child has been marked absent. You can provide an absence reason via this alert as well. Thank you.
School Banking
We will advise you when school banking is once again available to our students.
Celebrations and Sharing of Food
In light of the current environment that we are living in, we ask that you please do not send in birthday cakes or food to share with the class. I understand that this is something that the children enjoy, however, we need to maintain controlled safety and hygiene procedures in the school. If you would like to send in something to acknowledge and celebrate your child’s birthday, you are able to send in packaged goods only (eg, packets of Maltesers, small wrapped chocolate bars etc such as a Freddo Frogs). We will notify you when these restrictions are lifted.
Compass App
This app should be downloaded so you can be kept up to date with the latest events and information from the school. This app is also used for distribution of the Newsletter. Please download the app from your relevant store. For more information please see the attached flyer "Accessing the Compass App".
