John the Baptist's call to repentance is a call to Christians to beg God for the grace of conversion: the grace to know who they are, to whom they belong, how they are to live and for the grace to repent and change and grow in order to become good disciples and steward of Christ.
The season of Advent invites us to renew our lives in preparation for the coming of Jesus. The people who heard the message of John the Baptist repented for their sins and were baptised as a sign of God’s forgiveness. In Baptism, our sins are forgiven, and we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, who helps us in our life of discipleship. Led by the Holy Spirit, we use this Advent season to renew our lives so that we, like John the Baptist, might prepare the way for Jesus.
As John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus, Baptism commissions us to prepare the way of the Lord. The gift of the Holy Spirit leads us to continually renew our lives so that we might lead others to Jesus.
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is almost unbelievable that this is our final full week for the year. 2020 has been a tumultuous year for many, with the impact of COVID-19 being far-reaching around the globe. We have never been lacking in community spirit, energy and the motivation to be a ‘church in action’.
Yesterday, our students were promoted to their new class for 2021 and had the opportunity to meet their new teacher and the classmates who will journey with them during 2021.
A staff list will be included in today’s newsletter for your information. As we make preparations to begin a new school year by finalising the staff and students for 2021, we do this with the knowledge that we will be farewelling some of the existing members of our community.
On Thursday evening, our Year 6 students will complete a significant milestone in their lives, and will celebrate the completion of their Primary Education. For the majority of these students OLHC has been the only school they have ever known. As these students leave us to begin the next phase of their journey I thank them for sharing their special gifts with all of us here at OLHC and for enriching our school environment.
Year 6, please be assured that each of you takes with you our love and prayers and you leave with us the memory of the special, unique person that each of you are.
For many of our families their association with the OLHC community will be coming to an end. I take this opportunity to thank these families for living out their commitment to the school and for contributing to the building of this wonderful community in a multitude of ways.
With their youngest child leaving Year 6, we farewell the following families:
Angianga, Bell, Biju,
Billinghurst, Burnett, Dolman,
Faber, Gemayell, Gomez,
Halloran, Ignacio, Melhem,
Montano, Opalniuk, Pavan,
Potts, Robin, Shenoda,
Slatter, Toseski, Tracey, Turner,
Woodford.
We thank you for your contribution to your child’s learning and your support of the school.
Some of our staff will be beginning or continuing new adventures in 2020. We will farewell Mr Alister Marshall, who has successfully gained a permanent teaching position at Mary Immaculate, Eagle Vale. We also farewell Miss Alana Stroligo, who last week was successful in gaining a permanent Middle Leader 2 position at Holy Family, Ingleburn. To both of these valued staff we say ‘thank you’ for the contributions they have made and for making a difference to the lives of our students. We wish each of them abundant blessings as they begin new adventures in 2021.
On a more personal note, Mother Teresa once said ‘I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot, together we can do great things.’
At this time of great personal reflection I realise how strongly I can relate to this statement.
During my first year at OLHC, I am extremely thankful for all the opportunities that being part of this wonderful community has afforded me. These opportunities have assisted me to develop both personally and professionally and I have very much enjoyed getting to know your families and working with you all this year.
I wanted to pass on my personal thanks to Fr. Sarkis, who as Parish Priest, supports and nourishes our community of faith. I also wanted to thank each of the staff at OLHC for the commitment that they have shown to each student in their care, in what has been a very challenging year. I am sure that you will get the opportunity over the coming week to show gratitude towards your child’s teacher for their dedication and commitment this year.
Wishing you and your extended family abundant blessings for Christmas and for a safe holiday break.
We look forward to journeying with you in 2021.
Wishing you many blessings for the festive season,
Jane Webb
Principal
We are moving quickly towards the end of the year, with many end of year events this week.
There was much excitement on Tuesday as students moved into their classroom for next year. The students found out their class and their teacher for 2021. We hope they are filled with eagerness for everything the new school year will offer them.
Semester Two reports were released yesterday, via Compass, and are a reflection of your child’s achievements and areas for growth throughout this semester. Please take the time to talk to your child about what they have achieved and celebrate this success. Also share with them what may become a goal for them as they move into their new class next year. If you are having difficulty accessing the report please contact the office.
It will be lovely to be able to celebrate, as a school community, our End of Year Mass tomorrow. With the easing of restrictions we will be able to come together as a whole school (staff and students) for this. Hopefully, our parents will be able to join with us in 2021 to celebrate these significant events.
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who will be graduating this evening. I wish them all the best as they move ahead into high school. I hope they enjoy all the experiences they will have and may they continue to grow in their faith.
I also take this opportunity to say thank you to all of the wonderful staff here at OLHC. They work tirelessly for the good of the students in their class, constantly implementing strategies to improve their learning. A special thank you to Mrs Webb for her continual guidance and leadership this year, it has been a year like never before and we have been so lucky to have had all of her support.
I wish all of our community a blessed Christmas and a very relaxing holiday. May we all be given the opportunity to be refreshed and ready for 2021.
From the Religious Education Co-ordinator
As we come to the end of the school year I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to each of you for your ongoing support. Despite the many challenges that 2020 has brought, I am extremely proud of our school community and the way in which we have responded in faith and kindness.
This year has seen the OLHC community give more than ever to Catholic organisations like St Vincent de Paul and Catholic Mission. Following the example of Jesus Christ, we have reached out in faith and love to those around us in our global community.
The year has also seen us be creative in the way we celebrate our faith. Students have engaged in liturgies in their classrooms, Year 6 students have had spirituality days, we had a feast day week, as well as countless other activities. We appreciate the role Father Sarkis continues to play in our parish school as throughout the many challenges of this year he continued to visit the children and staff reminding us all that even in the hardest of times God is with us and our faith is alive.
I would also like to acknowledge the hardworking and dedicated staff at OLHC who throughout the changing landscape of teaching in 2020 have consistently prioritised and ensured the high quality teaching of Religion. The students at OLHC continue to grow and blossom in their knowledge of our faith and their spiritual development.
This Friday we will come together to celebrate and give thanks for the end of the school year at Mass together. While it saddens us that you can not be there, please know that you are all in our prayers. It is our greatest hope that next year will see us once again be able to come together as a faith community of students, staff, families and friends.
Our Christmas gift to you this year is a virtual Christmas concert. The video will be released via Seesaw on Friday. We hope it brings you joy and happiness.

Thank you for all your support with Seesaw. It has been such a pleasure allowing students the opportunity to share work with their loved ones in new and engaging ways. Next year, teachers will continue to use Seesaw as a platform for students to share their work samples.
In order to plan for future planning with Seesaw please complete the googleform following the link.
Please give our school Facebook page a like. We regularly upload photos of students through this platform and would love to keep our school community updated.

If you would like to send in something to acknowledge and celebrate your child’s birthday, you are able to send in packaged goods only (eg, packets of Maltesers, small wrapped chocolate bars etc such as a Freddo Frogs). We will notify you when these restrictions are lifted.

This app should be downloaded so you can be kept up to date with the latest events and information from the school. This app is also used for distribution of the Newsletter.
