Stewardship is not optional. "None of us lives as his own master and none of us dies as his own master," says St Paul. "While we live, we are responsible to the Lord, and when we die, we die as His servants."
The Gospel ....
Last weekend we heard from the Gospel of Matthew
Jesus teaches that we must forgive one another as God has forgiven us.
Children learn to trust God's mercy and forgiveness when they experience forgiveness from those closest to them. We hope that we model God's love and forgiveness within our family life. The Gospel reminds us that forgiveness is measured by its quality more than its quantity.
Invite your family to consider some recent times when family members sought the forgiveness of another. Ask if there were any statements made that put conditions on our forgiveness such as “I will play this game with you if you apologise for knocking over my blocks” or “I will accept your apology after you clean up your room.” Do we sometimes “keep count” or put conditions on our forgiveness of one another? This is something we may be doing without realising it.
In the Gospel, Matthew 18:21-35. Can we sometimes find ourselves sounding like Peter, concerning ourselves with quantity of forgiveness rather than offering forgiveness abundantly and unconditionally. Reflect upon the parable that Jesus tells. What does the servant do that makes the king so angry? He refuses to forgive his fellow servant the debt that he owes. Because we have all received God's forgiveness, God expects that we will also be forgiving toward others. Jesus' answer to Peter's question is found at the end of the parable. The number of times that we forgive one another is less important than the depth of our forgiveness. We must forgive one another from the heart.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen the seasons change and the weather start to get warmer. As the change of season comes around it is important that we take time to be attentive to what is happening around us. Nature is beginning to change – the days are becoming longer; buds are beginning to appear on trees and the scents of spring are definitely in the air. These seasonal changes remind us of the joyful and eternal cycle of life. We all know that Spring is the time of regrowth: the time when we prepare for the long much warmer days of Summer. This time of regrowth can also naturally occur within our children. This is never more noticeable than when they try on their summer uniforms and we discover just how much they have grown in a few short months. Our children can make us acutely aware of what is important and how we can connect with the people and the natural world around us. Recently, there were two students in a classroom. One was feeling apprehensive about her day and the other reached out in friendship. The two continued to chat, one attending to helping the other feel more comfortable. When they were asked how they were feeling, the second child said, "She’s not feeling great about her day. So, I’m listening. My dad told me that a problem shared is a problem halved.”
During this seasonal change we pause to give thanks for all that has been this term. We thank you, the parents, who as your child’s first teachers, give support, guidance and encouragement to your children. We thank the dedicated teaching and support staff at OLHC who work together to provide quality learning experiences on a daily basis for their students. We also thank our students, for their enthusiasm, imagination, creativity and being focussed with their learning. We thank Fr. Sarkis, who, as Parish Priest, provides a high level of support and ministers to our school community.
May the upcoming holiday break provide time for a break from the routine of school so that we are refreshed for the final term of the school year.
We remember to pray for those in our school and parish community who are in need of our prayers at this time. We particularly remember Mr Peter Vincent, whose Mother in Law, Yvonne, passed into eternal life a couple of weeks ago. May perpetual light shine upon her.
A reminder that next Friday 25th September is a pupil free day. Thank you for making alternative arrangements for your children on this day. The staff will be engaged in a Spirituality Day.
Wishing you many blessings as we journey to the end of term together.

The teachers and students have been revising all of the school rules this week, as a reminder of our expectations for behaviour in the classroom and on the playground, especially as we progress towards the end of the term. In particular, this week our focus has been on moving around the school quietly in two lines. The students were a credit to their teachers last week as they entered and exited the hall for Assembly. The decision to award House Points for this was almost impossible but congratulations to Kindergarten who were awarded extra House Points for this. The final House Point count for this term will take place tomorrow and the winning house for Term 3 will be announced tomorrow afternoon. This house will be awarded with their mufti day next Wednesday, 23rd September.
Term 4
We have certainly enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather we have been fortunate enough to experience this week and many students have enjoyed the change over to Summer Uniform. I’m sure many of you will have noticed how much they have grown, since the beginning of the year, when they tried on their uniform again this week. The upcoming holidays are a great opportunity to make sure the Summer uniforms are of the correct length, that shoes are cleaned and ready to go and hats are given a wash. Please also check your child’s school supplies (eg: lead pencils, pens, erasers, scissors, glue, ruler, coloured pencils or crayons etc) and replenish them ready to go for the new term.
The students and teachers are looking forward to our Book Week activities planned for next week, especially next Thursday when they can come to school dressed as their favourite character from a book. I hope you all have a lovely relaxing and peaceful holiday and we look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn in Term 4.

Class Formation for 2021
The lengthy process of class formation for 2021 will commence in earnest when we return to school in Term 4.
This process involves the current class teachers preparing draft lists for next year’s classes. This process takes into consideration the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of each individual student. Decisions are made to establish balanced, equitable class groups with the potential to work well together. As the teachers know the students within the school environment exceptionally well, the best interests of each individual student is always considered during the discernment process.
Parents are invited annually to contribute to the process of class formation by informing us, in writing, of any special needs that may affect class placement. Written requests can be submitted either through the class teacher or via an email to info@olhcdow.catholic.edu.au marked as the subject – "2021 Class Formation" during Weeks 1 to 4 in Term 4.
It is important to note that whilst parental requests are considered, there is never a guarantee that these requests will be granted. If parents make a request, particularly about their child being placed within a friendship group, please be aware that there may be circumstances surrounding such requests that may prevent it from being granted. All requests are considered when classes are constructed and must be provided prior to classes being finalised.
Please note that these requests need to made for Years Three, Five and Six 2021 as all other classes are single stream and will remain as the class group.
Students Not Returning in 2021
If parents are already aware that their child/ren will not be returning to OLHC in 2021, we request that this information be provided to Mrs Cantrill and Mrs Hole in the school office as soon as possible. This information will assist us with accommodating new applications.
Uniform Labelling
The holiday period is a wonderful opportunity to renewal labels on all pieces of your child’s uniform. I completely understand parental frustration regarding lost and missing items.
Please ensure all uniform pieces are clearly labelled with your child’s name using permanent marker in a prominent place. Students should know where their name is marked for easy checking. Please encourage your child to place all items straight into their bag rather than leaving them on the playground or in the classroom.
When we return for the commencement of Term 4 all students will need to be wearing full summer uniform.
Supporting Student Learning: Replenishing Equipment for the New School Term
As we approach the upcoming holidays, parents are asked to ensure that their child’s pencil case and school supplies are replenished. Having everything at their fingertips each day aids in the learning process allowing children to focus on the task at hand rather than worrying about not having the equipment to complete the task.
Also, as we approach Term 4 it is important that the students continue to wear full school uniform until the end of the year. It may be a good idea to check your child’s uniform, including school hat, school shoes and joggers, to make sure that they will all ‘last the distance’. This is particularly important for Year 6 students.
Parent Action: Check that your child’s school equipment is replenished. Make sure that students’ equipment and uniform are clearly labelled.
Staffing News
As we draw towards the end of the third term I wanted to let you know some staffing information for Term 4 and 2021.
Next term, Mrs Eileen Shaw, who is currently in a Learning Support role for three days per week, will be taking Long Service Leave. We wish Mrs Shaw a most enjoyable time of rest and renewal during this leave.
Next term, we also welcome back Mrs Danielle Dew who will be returning from maternity leave with her first child, Harrison. We warmly welcome Mrs Dew back to OLHC. Mrs Dew will be fulfilling the Learning Support role vacated by Mrs Shaw for the remainder of the school year.
Mr Alister Marshall has been successful in obtaining a permanent teaching position from 2021 at Mary Immaculate Primary School in Eagle Vale. We thank Mr Marshall for the way that he has enriched and contributed to the OLHC community over the past two years and wish him all the best for the future.
We are certainly blessed at OLHC to have passionate educators who are involved in contributing to the ongoing education of our students. We are grateful to all our staff for the contributions they make on a daily basis to making a difference to the lives of our students.

Book Week 2020
Next week our students will be engaged in a variety of activities around the book week books. The week will end with a dress up day on Thursday 24th September. If students would like to, they can dress up as their favourite book character for the day. We look forward to a wonderful week focused on sharing our love of reading.
School Banking
School Banking has been suspended for the remainder of the term.
Celebrations and Sharing of Food
In light of the current environment that we are living in, we ask that you please do not send in birthday cakes or food to share with the class. I understand that this is something that the children enjoy, however, we need to maintain controlled safety and hygiene procedures in the school. If you would like to send in something to acknowledge and celebrate your child’s birthday, you are able to send in packaged goods only (eg, packets of Maltesers, small wrapped chocolate bars etc such as a Freddo Frogs). We will notify you when these restrictions are lifted.
Compass App
This app should be downloaded so you can be kept up to date with the latest events and information from the school. This app is also used for distribution of the Newsletter.
