The Gospel is sometimes called "the Gospel in miniature" because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, "God loved ... God gave ..." is the paradigm of stewardship - we, too, should give simply because we love.
The Gospel ....
John 3:16-18
God sent his Son into the world to save the world.
God the Father, out of love for the world, sent his Son into the world in order to save it. Through the death and resurrection of the Son, we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. As three persons, God acts always as a God of love; he does not condemn the world but acts to save it.
The Gospel also calls attention to the response that is required of us. God’s love for us calls us to respond in faith by professing our belief in God’s son, Jesus, and the salvation that he has won for us. This profession of faith is a sign of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Because of God’s great love for us, he sent his Son, Jesus, to save the world. Jesus, in turn, sent the Holy Spirit so that our faith in God and his love would be strengthened. The nurturing experiences of family life also help us to understand and have faith in God’s love.
Dear Parents and Carers,
From the eSafety Commissioner
Now that restrictions are being slowly lifted, it is time to also think about how children are using technology by recognising habits that may have developed in remote learning or by not socialising face to face.
There are 6 Online Safety tips for parents and carers to be aware of as we start to come into the ‘new normal’. These tips include:
- Stay connected with friends
- Manage your mental health in and out of COVID lockdown
- Know how to deal with cyberbullying
- Don’t fall for fake news
- Balance your time online
- Be cautious about online relationships
Celebrating Birthdays at School
Birthdays are an important part of a child’s life and having an opportunity to recognise their birthday with their school friends is exciting. Special treats to share are allowed, however, they must be wrapped such as a ‘Freddo’ frog, or similar is encouraged. The sharing of food such as birthday cakes, cupcakes and lolly bags is not allowed, particularly in this period of COVID-19.
Semester One Reporting (Year 1 to Year 6)
Reporting in Semester One will be in the form of a written interim report. This report is designed to reflect the engagement in learning that has been undertaken during classroom and remote learning over the course of the semester.
It is important to note that the interim report is not a progress report or an achievement. Therefore, grades will not be allocated. The reason for this is that given the modes of learning that have had to occur, valid assessment of student progress has been challenged.
Due to the nature of this type of reporting, grade distribution or placement of students’ level of achievement across the class/grade, will not be available.
Teachers will report on student effort and engagement in the three Key Learning Areas of Religious Education, English and Mathematics.
The interim report will be distributed to parents via COMPASS next Friday 19th June and supported by a parent teacher telephone interview in Week 10 (29 June - 3 July).
Please read the letter included in this newsletter regarding the Semester 1 Student Interim Reports. In the coming days you will be sent an alert through Compass regarding the opportunity to book a teleconference with your child’s class teacher to discuss the Semester 1 Interim Report. The telephone interview will occur at different times and days for all classes throughout Week 10.
Preparing for the Possibility of a Temporary School Closure - COVID19
While every reasonable step has been taken to ensure our schools are safe, we are prepared for the possibility that our school may need to close temporarily as a result of a confirmed case of COVID-19. You will receive timely updates via the COMPASS App if this occurs.
If we are required to close during school hours, supervision will be available for students unable to return home, with reduced interaction between students.
Please ensure that the school office has your most current mobile telephone number and email address. This will help the school to make contact with you and ensure that you are kept up-to-date with important information.
The well-being and safety of all students and staff at OLHC remains our constant priority. We are most grateful to parents for their understanding and support.
Thank you.
Jane Webb
Principal
It is hard to believe that we are moving towards the end of the term, it seems to be flying by. Thank you to all of our students (and parents) for wearing their winter uniform correctly and with pride. As the weather gets colder your child may wish to wear a scarf or gloves to and from school. This is fine as long as they are of school colours and are taken off during class time. This is the same for jackets, like parkas. They may be worn for extra warmth but the school jumper must be worn first and jackets must be removed when in the classroom. A reminder for girls that earrings must be gold or silver studs (without a stone) or sleepers (that can twist fully through the ear).
Thank you for your continued support of our afternoon pick up procedures. We realise that the traffic flow through the Pick Up zone is heavy but we appreciate your adherence to our safety measures and your patience so that we can ensure all students leave the school grounds safely. The pick up of students by parents at the St Anne gate is working very well and it only takes a few minutes for us to dismiss students to waiting parents, once again thank you for your patience. Tuesday afternoon has also been far smoother with John Therry siblings also following these procedures and not coming into the school grounds. These procedures will continue for the time being until we can move to the next phase of our response to the COVID 19 pandemic. With time, and assurance from health professionals that it is safe to do so, we will return to our previous arrangements and allow parents back into the school grounds. We will notify you of any changes as they occur.
As a school we continue to promote the importance of reading daily. Students have access to a range of books via our online subscriptions of PM Readers (K-4) and Sora (Years 5-6). We understand that our lives are busy but if you can find time each day to support your child to ensure that this happens that would be fantastic. As your child becomes more independent with this they may not need to read to you each day but you can have a conversation with them about what they have read after they finish their reading time. It is always good to discuss and even use a dictionary to find the meaning of any words that they don’t understand, even if you just choose one new word each day then they have learnt five new vocabulary words by the end of the week.
Take care.

Ripples
The Catholic Education Office has developed a podcast to support the spiritual formation of staff and parents.
Ripples seeks to offer a space where people can draw on the wisdom of a series of guest speakers and can experience some treasured stillness through meditation. On Tuesday of each week a new Episode and Meditation are released. Practices like these create a ripple effect. They have the potential to impact the way we respond to family, friends, colleagues, to others in our world, to creation and to our loving God.
The Ripples Podcast is available on the Continuity of Faith and Learning website, on Podbean. and Apple Podcast.
St Vincent de Paul - Winter Appeal
On Thursday, 25th June we will be having a mufti day to support the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society. Children are asked to bring in a gold coin donation for the Winter Appeal.
As well as their mufti clothes, children are encouraged to wear scarves, beanies, socks and gloves. By wearing our “winter woolies” we hope to promote awareness of the hardships of those who are homeless during these colder months.

COVID Survey
I would like to thank all parents for taking the time to complete the survey that was shared in the last newsletter. I appreciate all the time that parents spent to complete it. I have collated the data and will be using the data to inform future planning and decision making.
Some responses requested for online ceremonies and assemblies. Unfortunately we are unable to record ceremonies and assemblies then post this on any social media sites. We understand how important it is for students to be presented with Principal’s Awards and understand it is impossible that parents are able to attend assembly. Over the term, Mrs Webb has been presenting Principal’s Awards to each individual grade during a virtual grade assembly. This has allowed classroom teachers to take photos of students receiving Principal Awards with Mrs Webb. Students individual photos will then be emailed to parents via the email address that was provided to the office.
Additionally, some responses mentioned social distancing between students. The advice of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) is that the 1.5m and 4sqm social distancing rules are not required of students at school. However, adults at school are still required to maintain 1.5m.
It was great to see a number of parents found the PMeCollection a valuable tool for reading. At the moment, teachers are unable to distribute home readers to students, so students are encouraged to continue practising their reading skills using this online platform. At the beginning of the term K-4 students received their login details for this. If you have misplaced your child’s login details for their PM eCollection please make contact with your child’s classroom teacher. At the commencement of each week, classroom teachers assign 3 home readers to each child to read. Teachers then award students house points for each home reader students have completed. Teachers are able to monitor student engagement within each book and if students select the option to record then teachers are able to listen to students read their assigned book.
Students in Year 5-6 are encouraged to use SORA which is another platform whereby students are able to open a world of reading. To use this platform students require their google login details.
Once again I would like to thank each and everyone one of you for your ongoing support and look forward to what the future may bring within my middle leader role as parent engagement.
Please give our school Facebook page a like. We regularly upload photos of students through this platform and would love to keep our school community updated. Select the image below for our OLHC Facebook page.

- Commencing the weekend of the 6th/7th June, normal weekend Mass times will resume ie. Saturday Vigil Mass at 6.00pm, Sunday Masses at 8.30am and 10.00am. Weekday Mass times will continue as usual.
- There will be a limit of 50 people at each Mass, as well as the Priest and essential assistants. This applies to both weekend and weekday Masses.
- You will need to register beforehand giving name, telephone number and email. This is necessary to enable contract tracing, if required.
- To make this as simple as possible, you will need to ring the parish office to register for which Mass you wish to attend. Please ring between 9.30am - 3.30pm Tuesday to Thursday and between 9.30am and 2.30pm Friday only.
- You cannot just "turn up".
- Monitors will be present to assist and ensure required protocols and health requirements are fulfilled. To ensure these are done without unnecessary delays, please arrive 15 minutes before the start of Mass. Once Mass starts, the doors will be closed.
- After Mass you will be provided with a disinfectant wipe to rub over surfaces where you have been sitting or come in contact with.
- Toilets will not be open
- Anyone who is elderly, vulnerable or prone to infections are discouraged from attending at this stage. If you do, then please check with your doctor first to ensure that you are cleared to gather in groups and notify the parish office of this when you register.
