COMPASS & TECHNOLOGY ONE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
As advised previously, the Compass system will now be the only application that we use to communicate with our school community and for you to communicate with us. Please adjust your devices, if necessary, for automatic updates.
The letter sent home on 7th November regarding changes to our financial management system (TechnologyOne) is also attached for your information.
Last Sunday's Gospel ...
Jesus gave us some insight into life after death. People asked who a woman would be married to in heaven if she remarried when her husband died. Jesus responded that no-one would be married in heaven because that is an earthly concept. We would be like the angels in that we are all in perfect unity with God and one another. So we will be with all the people we love when we are in heaven.
Did you know? ...
Most houses in Malta are named in honour of Our Lady, or one of the saints from the early church.
St Paul prayed that the Thessalonians may be strengthened "in every good deed and word". May we, too, be strengthened and empowered to use our times and talents for the good of others.
Dear Parents,
I am very happy to announce the names of our two halls. After consultation with Fr Sarkis, the multi purpose centre will be known as the St Anne Hall, and the Parish/School Hall, the St Joachim Hall. Saints Joachim and Anne were the parents of the blessed virgin Mary and therefore Jesus’ grandparents. It reflects the family connections that are so important to our students and the Marion character of our school. The Blessing and Naming liturgy will be on Wednesday 4th December at 10.00am and be part of our parish 25th Anniversary Jubilee celebrations. Thank you for submitting suggestions to us. You are all warmly invited to the liturgy – more details will follow.
The procedure for our captains for 2020 has begun. Students have nominated and are now working on their speeches. We will hear them soon and once the students have voted we will let you all know as soon as possible who our leaders will be for 2020. We will have two captains, two vice captains (a boy and a girl in each role) and one house captain for each house. The house captains will be determined on the number of votes, regardless of whether they are a boy or girl. We have explained this to the students. It will be the first year we do this so no doubt there will be questions and perhaps some unforeseen consequences. I thank you for your support in making this change. I have kept Fr Sarkis informed and he is also fully supportive. I wish all the nominees well as they continue through the process.
I received two requests from parents to have their child separated from another. Thank you! It makes the transition into the new year much more positive for everyone involved.
Many of our Year 3 students, along with some from other grades, are in the final stages of preparation for First Communion. I look forward to seeing many of you there on Sunday 24th November.
God Bless,
Michelle Rolfe
Principal
The teachers are very busy at the moment preparing student end of year reports. These will be released, through Compass, at the end of Week 9. These reports are a summary of your child’s achievements in Semester 2 (Terms 3 and 4). They will outline student learning gains in Religion, English and Maths as well as areas for growth in English and Maths. The students are learning how to set learning goals for themselves based on feedback they receive through the use of Success Criterias in the classroom. The school reports offer another opportunity for students to receive feedback about their learning throughout the year. Please take this as an opportunity to celebrate the positives and to talk to your child about areas they may need to work on next year.

Positive Behaviours for Learning

Parish Silver Jubilee
This year is the 25th year since the church's canonical establishment as a Parish. The celebration falls on a Sunday and to suitably celebrate there will be no 8.30am Mass, the only Mass on Sunday 8th December will be at 10.00am (of course, the Vigil Mass will remain on Saturday). It will be followed by a parish luncheon provided in the hall. Numbers are obviously not needed for Mass attendance; however, since the meal will be catered for, we need to know definite numbers attending the lunch. It will not be possible to "just turn up" for the meal - please put your name down - remember if you put your name down and do not come, that meal will have been paid for and will be wasted. If you will be attending the lunch, please write your name, number of people attending and telephone number on the sheet at the Notice Board of the church, or ring the Parish Office on 4628 1385.
Appin Parishioners
Even though weekend Mass is no longer celebrated, Appin Church is still being used for funerals and weddings and requires cleaning each month. Volunteers are urgently needed - if you can help ring the Parish Office on 4628 1385
