As we will soon be celebrating the liturgical season of Easter, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the blessings that this sacred season brings into our lives. Easter is not merely a day on the calendar; it is a season—a time of profound significance in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church. It is a season of renewal, rebirth, and most importantly, hope.
During this Lent, we have embarked on a journey of self-reflection, fasting, and prayer, preparing our hearts to receive the joyous message of Easter. Now, as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are reminded of the triumph of life over death, light over darkness, and hope over despair.
In our Catholic primary school community, the significance of Easter extends beyond the walls of our classrooms. It permeates our daily activities, infusing them with the spirit of joy, compassion, and love. We are reminded of the new life that Easter brings in our hearts and souls.
Through the liturgical season of Easter, we are invited to deepen our faith and embrace the transformative power of Christ's resurrection. It is a time for us to renew our commitment to living as disciples of Christ, embodying His teachings of love, forgiveness, and compassion in all that we do.
As parents and educators, let us seize this opportunity to instil in our children the profound meaning of Easter. Let us teach them to cherish the gift of faith, to embrace the hope that springs eternal from the empty tomb, and to live their lives as beacons of Christ's light in a world often shrouded in darkness.
May this joy of Easter fill your hearts with renewed faith, hope, and love. Let us continue to journey together as a community, guided by the light of Christ's resurrection, and may his blessings be upon us all.
Wishing you many blessings for a joyous Easter season.
Jesus is love.
Love has overcome death.
Jesus is light:
Light has overcome darkness.
We are an Easter people, filled with joy,
And with all the angels and saints, we exalt your name and exclaim,
Alleluia, Jesus Christ our Lord has risen.
Amen.

Dear Parents and Carers,
The completion of Term One, is an important to take the time to look back with gratitude for the positive start to the school year. At the end of Term One, we give thanks to God for all the teaching and learning that has taken place in our school, both in and out of the classroom. For the talents and gifts that have been shared and the challenges that have been faced. For the respect and care that has been given. We give thanks for the friendships that have just begun and for those that have grown.
For the hope that has lifted our hearts and for the love that has kept us going.
We give thanks to our school community, and we ask you, Lord, to bless our children and their families as we begin our holidays. May our time together leave us with memories to cherish. Pour out your love on us so that we return renewed and refreshed to continue our journey together.
May our school community, our family lives, and our broader Church, all allow us to build a deeper relationship with our God this Easter season.
Wishing you all many blessings for the Easter season and for the school holiday break.
A reminder that school will begin for Term Two on Tuesday 29th April 2025. We will look forward to welcoming back students, parents, and staff for the beginning of the term. Please note that Monday 28th April will be a professional learning day for the staff of OLHC.

Embark on a Spiritual Journey: Introducing the Jubilee Year Pilgrim Passport
As part of the Diocese of Wollongong's celebration of the 2025 Jubilee Year, themed "Pilgrims of Hope," families are invited to participate in a unique spiritual journey using the Pilgrim Passport. This passport serves as a guide to six designated pilgrimage sites within our diocese, offering an opportunity to deepen your family's faith and experience God's boundless mercy.
Key Features of the Pilgrim Passport:
- Guidance on the Jubilee Indulgence: Understand how to obtain the Jubilee plenary indulgence, a special grace available during this Holy Year.
- Prayers for Pilgrims: Engage in meaningful prayers tailored for your pilgrimage experience.
- Sacrament of Reconciliation Guide: Prepare for confession with a comprehensive guide included in the passport.
- Pilgrimage Site Stamps: Collect stamps at each of the six designated pilgrimage sites, marking your family's spiritual journey.
The Pilgrim Passport is more than a travel document; it's a tool to enrich your family's faith journey throughout the Jubilee Year. As Bishop Brian Mascord encourages, let us be "overwhelmed not by fear, but by hope" during this sacred time.
Embrace this opportunity to journey together as a family, growing in faith and hope during the Jubilee Year.
Students will receive their Pilgrim Passport this Friday at the end of a liturgy during Community Singing.

Transition to Winter Uniform
During Week 1 and 2, the students are able to wear either their summer or winter uniform as long as they are wearing their full summer or winter uniform and not a combination of each.
The OLHC winter uniform requires students to wear a tie and their school jumper if they are cold. The sports jacket is only to be worn with the sports uniform. As the weather gets colder, some students choose to wear scarves and gloves to and from school. This is acceptable as long as they are school colours (maroon or grey) and they must be removed once in the classroom.
Beginning on Monday, 12th May 2025 (the week after Mother's Day) all students must wear full Winter uniform.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING (PB4L)
When students exhibit positive behaviour, by following our school rules, their name is written on a raffle ticket and is entered into a draw where two winners are selected at flag-raising on a Monday morning. The students receive a voucher for the Canteen which can be used for treats or put towards a lunch order. Congratulations to these winners:

OLHC Cross Country - Held at John Therry on Thursday 3 April 2025
Our school’s annual Cross Country event took place last Thursday, 3rd April, at John Therry Catholic College. The sun was shining, and the atmosphere was filled with loud cheering and smiles. Every student who participated in the race did an incredible job, whether they ran or walked.
With the support of their fellow students and the encouragement of spectators cheering them on, they all crossed the finish line gaining points for their house colour. We also extend our thanks to John Therry for allowing us to use their field and to our parent helpers, Mrs Razooq and Mrs Davies for their support.
Ribbons for students who finished in first, second or third place will be presented at the next assembly (Friday 9th May 2025). We will also announce house points winners.
Students who have been selected to represent our school at Nowra will be notified via Compass event shortly.
