Last Sunday's Gospel ...
Jesus tells the story of guests coming to an event and ranking themselves as the most important there. He reminds us that the host - God, is the one to decide on the ranking. He is the one who determines our place based on who we are and what we do .
Did you know? ...
Many of the churches in Malta have a huge dome. They are often constructed without any scaffolding from the bottom up. It is an old, but effective technique because they are very strong. Parishioners often know how big the dome or other important features of the church are compared to neighbouring ones and are very proud of them because they contribute a great deal to their construction.
Jesus warns us not to give in to hopes of repayment, but to give open-handedly to the poor and needy. That sort of giving mirrors the bountiful giving of God, and Jesus assures us it is blessed indeed!.
Dear Parents,
I thank you very sincerely for making the effort to come to our Information Technology Meeting on Monday night. We finished by 7.30pm, as promised. I very much value the time you took to be with us and the arrangements you made to be there. I hope you found it valuable. Each parent has their own individual log in details to access the Compass site, so if you didn’t get your log in on Monday evening, we will send them home directly. As Compass rolls out, we will keep you informed of the features as we receive access to them. At the moment you can see a lot more than we can actually use. The new Diocesan Social Media Policy states we need to hold these information evenings each year. We will try to make each meeting useful and relevant. The following link will take you to the policy document should you wish to read it.

I sincerely thank the 13 staff members who came along to help with the set up and administration for the evening. In particular, I thank Miss O’Sullivan who co-ordinated us all and worked diligently with the office staff on the preparation. Our staff willingly give of their own time to come to these events and we are very lucky. It certainly doesn’t happen in every school.
Our Excellence Awards and Cultural Afternoon were very well attended as well and I thank you for supporting us and your children by coming along.
The P&F did a wonderful job with the Father’s Day stall yet again. They are also busy counting chocolate money so please remember to return the money, or the chocolates, by the end of this week. Don’t worry if you have some chocolates left over – the staff all buy them!
Our Kindergarten 2020 Orientation evening is on Tuesday 10th September commencing at 7.15pm in the hall. It will be lovely to welcome new families especially to our OLHC family.
God bless.

Lesson Observations
Over the next couple of weeks all of our teachers have/will be working together, in professional groups, to observe and discuss the ways they are giving the students descriptive feedback to assist their learning. The teachers who have been involved so far have found the day very rewarding and have taken ideas away that they would like to try in their own classrooms.
Hair Cuts - Boys
Another reminder about our school policy on hair cuts for boys: The emphasis is on neat and tidy. Boys' hair is to be no longer than eyebrow or collar lengths and extremes of hair cuts are not permitted - hair must be evenly cut - no rat's tails or shaved sections/lines.

St Vincent de Paul Hand Me Ups Project
Today a group of our Student Representative Council members visited the local St Vincent de Paul Centre to learn about the good work Vinnies do in helping those most needy in our community. On their return to school the students will prepare a short presentation for the rest of the students about how each of us can work with St Vincent de Paul to help serve the community. One of those ways is by making small donations of good quality items. That is why, for one week, beginning on Thursday 12th September, we will be housing a donation container where families can bring in donations for St Vincent de Paul. Donation examples are: clothing and shoes, jewellery and accessories, toys and books, kitchenware and bric-a-brac, home-wares and bed linen and new underwear (labels on).
Grandparents Day
This year we will be celebrating Grandparents Day on Friday 25th October. The day will commence with a Mass at 10.00am in the church. This will be followed by morning tea for the parents and grandparents and then open classrooms. We look forward to having you join us, in prayer, to celebrate these amazing people in our lives.
School-wide Positive Behaviours for Learning
When students exhibit positive behaviour, by following our school rules, their name is written on a raffle ticket and is entered into a draw where two winners are selected at flag-raising. The students receive a voucher for use at the canteen.

Pick Up / Drop Off
We had John Therry High School contact us today regarding their concerns with our parents driving too fast through the drop off area of a morning - there was a near miss this morning and an accident averted only because of the vigilance of the other driver. We ask that when entering this zone you drive at 10kph and be mindful of the volume of cars/buses using this area, as well as students.
CEDoW - Year 6 Masses with Bishop Brian Mascord
