FROM THE GOSPEL -
Some of Jesus’ disciples found Jesus’ teaching difficult in the Gospel account from last Sunday.
There were a number who even left Him because they realised they couldn’t put God first in their lives. At times, we can find it hard to do the same, but we find that when we do, everything else falls into place and we have a deep level of joy and satisfaction in knowing that God is with us. We continue to grow in our ability to Seek Wisdom and Love God.
Pupil Free Day Friday 13 September 2024
Last week was a wonderful week for our students at OLHC. Students were supported to choose a wonderful Father's Day gift from the P&F Father’s Day stall. Thanks to the efforts of a hard-working band of parents that helped to ensure that the students could purchase a variety of gifts. We hope all our Dads, Grandads and father figures have a wonderful day on Father’s Day.
Never underestimate how very important you are in your children’s lives.
Dear Heavenly Father,
On this special day, we thank You for the fathers and remarkable.
men who have touched our lives. Bless our fathers with strength
and wisdom, and let them feel appreciated for their love and
sacrifices.
We also lift up grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and friends who.
have shaped us. May they be recognised for their kindness and
positive impact.
We remember those who have lost father figures, asking for Your
comfort and the warmth of cherished memories.
Finally, guide future generations of fathers to lead with love and
integrity, creating a legacy of strength and kindness.
In Your holy name, we pray.
Amen.
Our wonderful Parent helpers on the Fathers Day stall.
May we continue to Seek wisdom and love God in all that we do.
Enjoy the week ahead,
Jane Webb

PB4L
Congratulations to Ingham who are currently in the lead with house points. Please see below for the current house point tally. Over the coming weeks one of our PB4L focuses will be Afternoon Dismissal. The students will be reminded of the expectations, procedures and how to follow the school rules when they are dismissed in the afternoon.
We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child uses one of the dismissal points each afternoon (Pick Up, John Therry, Bus, After School Care or Classroom Pick up). Please remember that if you plan to come into the school to pick up your child you must enter the school via the St Anne gate and not through the school car park gate.
At 2.45pm all children leave their classrooms. Those who travel on buses, use the car pick up area or wait for their John Therry siblings, are to move to these pick up areas under the supervision of classroom teachers. Parents may move from the seats near the flagpole, or from the parent waiting area at the hall, to their child’s classroom. Parents cannot wait for children outside the classrooms or library as it is distracting for the children. Teachers will remain near their classroom after the bell and then escort the remaining children to the office area to be supervised until they are collected by parents.
To help ensure safety, the car park is not to be accessed from 2.45pm to 3.05pm.
Parents and children are asked to use the Demetrius Road pedestrian gate.
We also ask that parents don’t park in the school car park and walk over to pick up their child from the Pick Up or John Therry waiting area.
1st - Ingham (1122 points)
2nd - Sarkis (1082 points)
3rd - Rose (976 points)
4th - MacKillop (883 points)

- Teachers listen to concerns I have.
- Written information from the school is in clear, plain language.
- My child is clear about the rules for school behaviour.
- Teachers maintain control of their classes.
- Teachers expect my child to pay attention in class.

Enjoy some pictures.

P&F Bunnings BBQ
What a wonderful event this was for our school community!
This is the second time that we have had the opportunity to utilise this barbeque as a fundraising event for the P&F at OLHC. It was a very successful day and optimised what can be achieved when we work together for a common purpose. Thank you to the parents who provided valuable support in the organisation of the day, to those who assisted at the BBQ on the day and also to the many families who supported the school by coming along to the BBQ and purchasing a sausage sandwich (or two!)
Special thanks to those families that were able to donate their time to supporting this fundraising initiative! More will be detailed in this newsletter under P&F News.

CDF PUBLIC SPEAKING - Congratulations to Selam and Eloise
Congratulations to Eloise (5M) and Selam (6W) who will both represent OLHC with pride at the CDF Public Speaking Regional Final that will be held next Monday 9th September at Holy Family School Ingleburn.
As a finalist representing OLHC, Selam will present a speech on the topic ‘Artificial Intelligence - Helpful or Harmful?’
As a Year 5 finalist, Eloise will present a speech on the topic ‘Small things - big impact’. We are very proud of both Selam and Eloise for the way that they prepared and delivered their speech with such confidence.
Good luck to both students for next week!
STAFF NEWS
This week, it has been wonderful to welcome back Miss Mudie from her recent leave to celebrate her honeymoon overseas with her husband.
It is great to have Miss Mudie back with us at OLHC. Year 6 White was very happy for Miss Mudie’s return this week.
As a school community, we also extend our congratulations to Mrs Nowak on the recent safe arrival of her daughter - Eliana, born at the end of August.
We wish Mr and Mrs Nowak many blessings at this exciting time.
CANTEEN CLOSED Friday 27 September 2024
The canteen will be closed on Friday 27 September 2024. Please ensure students have adequate lunch, recess and drinks for the day.
At the start of Term 4, the school will have a new company operating the canteen, called 'Cantina Catering'. The new company will provide the options for parents to order lunches online via the Flexischools App. Also the school office will be selling reusable lunch bags for students to purchase.
This is exciting news, as it will give parents and staff the flexibility to order lunches online in advance.
More details will be in our next newsletter of how to access Flexischools and will include a new Canteen Menu!
CAMP AUSTRALIA
We’re thrilled to announce an exciting new offer for your school community—Camp Australia is now offering a First Day Free at our Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) programs! This is a fantastic opportunity for families to experience the benefits of our program without any cost for their first session.
Please see the coupon below to access this offer at Camp Australia.
Summer Uniform
The seasons are starting to change and, as is custom at OLHC, following Father's Day (Monday 2nd September) students are able to begin to wear their Summer uniform. This is always done at parents’ discretion based on the weather each day.
Thank you for supporting our OLHC Uniform policy and expectations.
It is great to see the students wearing their school uniform with pride each day.
Parents are reminded that the Clothing Pool is open each Tuesday morning and has a range of second-hand uniform items available.

Whooping Cough in Schools
There has been a recent increase of whooping cough (pertussis) amongst primary-school-aged children and a modest increase in high schools.
Coughing spreads the infection to others nearby. Whooping cough caught at school can spread to any younger brothers and sisters at home. Whooping cough can be especially dangerous for babies.
Whooping cough starts like a cold and progresses to bouts of coughing that can last for many weeks. Older children may just have a cough that is persistent and is worse at night. The infection can occur even in fully-vaccinated children.
- Children with symptoms should see a GP.
- If your doctor diagnoses whooping cough, please let the school know and keep your child at home until they have taken 5 days of antibiotics. Keep coughing children away from babies.
- Whooping cough vaccines give good protection against infection but immunity fades. If your school-aged child has younger siblings, it’s a good idea to check that they are up to date with their vaccines.
