WHO WE ARE
We are a community of communities, drawn from many languages and cultures who—through Baptism and the Holy Spirit—are committed to knowing, loving and serving Jesus Christ in the modern world.
Led by our local bishop, Brian Mascord, we are today some 191,000 baptised Catholics in the Illawarra, Macarthur, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands regions of NSW, Australia.
Our diocese has been blessed with a rich diversity—traditional Aboriginal custodians, old settlers and newly-arrived migrants; rural, urban and industrial environments; coastal and highland settings; established townships and some of the fastest growing suburbs in Australia.
We share to our community the "It's Who We Are" video narrated by Bishop Brian Mascord. Please enjoy!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the third term of the school year. I hope that you were able to enjoy the change of pace that the school holiday break provides. It has been wonderful to see the students return to school this week, happy to reconnect with their friends and looking forward to all that lies ahead in the third term.
It is very difficult to believe that it is already August next week. The staff at OLHC are looking forward to a productive term ahead filled with opportunities for our students to continue to grow in their faith and improve in their learning.
We are looking forward to welcoming parents into the school during the term to share in learning experiences and opportunities.
In order to set our students up for success for the term ahead, so that they can be active learners and make the most out of learning opportunities, the focus for the newsletter for this week will be supporting positive student attendance and the importance of positive school attendance.

Welcome back to Term 3!
I hope that you all found the holiday break relaxing with valuable time spent with family and friends. The students have all come back to school refreshed and ready to learn, as have the teachers.
PB4L
Congratulations to Rose who was the winning house for Term 2.
Next Monday at Flag Raising that will be held in the school hall due to cold weather, the first house point update for Term 3 will be announced.
Each week there is a different PB4L focus that will be explicitly taught to the students as a reminder of the expectations, procedures and how to follow the school rules in this setting.
This week the focus has been Playground 2 and next week the focus will be the expectations when visiting the Church, whether that be for Mass, Reconciliation or Benediction. These expectations will also be displayed in the classroom on a poster which highlights how the students can show that they are Being Safe, Respectful and An Active Learner in the Church.
Please see the poster for Playground 2 which is hung in each classroom and has been referred to this week.
School Photos
Next Wednesday, 31st July, we are having School Photos. All students will be required to wear their full school winter uniform on this day. Please note that students' hair must adhere to the uniform policy on this day as well. Girl’s hair below the shoulders must be tied back.
Visit by Campbelltown Police Youth Liaison
This week a class visit from the Campbelltown Police Youth Liaison Officer, Senior Constable Nicole Winley was arranged for the Year 3 students.
The purpose of this visit will be to support the learning that had taken place last term with Mr Myerscough in relation to Respectful Relationships. Senior Constable Winley also discussed with the students safe and unsafe behaviour, including physical behaviour that can lead to injury.
A visit for Years 5 and 6 students has also been arranged for next week. During this visit Senior Constable Nicole Winley will unpack safe online behaviour, creating a positive digital footprint and appropriate use of technology with the students.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS AT OLHC
As we embark on a new school term it is also timely to provide the following information about arriving late to school. This would be a worthwhile conversation with your children, even if they have very strong attendance at school.
Every late day can affect your child’s learning and wellbeing. Every minute counts. If children are late due to unavoidable circumstances, parents/carers must walk students to the school office to explain the reason why they are late?
Please do not drop child/ren in the staff car park unattended.
What if my child is consistently late for school?

WHY MUST I SEND MY CHILD TO SCHOOL?
Education in NSW is compulsory. This means all children from six years of age and under the minimum school leaving age are legally required to attend school.
WHY IS REGULAR ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL IMPORTANT?
Regular school attendance will help your child to succeed in life. Attending school every day makes learning easier for your child to build and maintain friendships with other children. If your child doesn’t learn the basic skills in the early years of school, they may develop learning problems in later years.
MUST I SEND MY CHILD EVERY DAY? YES.
It is a condition of enrolment that you send your child to school every day. A small number of absences may be justified if your child must:
- go to a special religious ceremony.
- is required to attend a serious and/or urgent family situation (e.g. funeral); and
- is too sick to go to school or has an infectious illness.
MUST MY CHILD ATTEND ALL ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING SPORT? YES!
Children are expected to attend all regular school activities. Do not keep your child at home for the following:
- birthdays
- minding other children.
- routine check-ups or care such as haircuts.
- minor family events.
- sleeping in.
Medical and other health appointments for your child should be made either before or after school or during the school holidays.
WHY IS ARRIVING AT SCHOOL ON TIME IMPORTANT?
Arriving at school and class on time:
- ensures that your child doesn’t miss out on the important learning activities scheduled early in the day when they are most alert.
- helps your child learn the importance of punctuality and routine; and
- gives your child time to greet their friends before class and therefore reduces the opportunity for classroom disruption.
TAKING LEAVE DURING THE SCHOOL TERM - REQUEST FOR EXTENDED LEAVE
Holidays/travel during school time (If exceeding 10 days requires a separate application for leave form (from 10 – 100 days) and must be completed prior to the travel dates)
- misadventure or unforeseen event.
- participation in special events not related to the school.
- domestic necessity such as serious illness of an immediate family member.
- attendance at funerals; and,
- recognised religious festivals or ceremonial occasions.
This approval needs to be prior to departure and provide enough time for the school office to process the approval for leave.
Please also provide all relevant travel documentation with your leave application, so that Mrs Webb can use this as part of the leave approval process.
It is important to note that school attendance data is taken into consideration during this approval process.
Link to extended leave form that can be fouind on our wesbite uinder parent link, policies forms and notes.
NAPLAN Student Reports - 2024
Students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 participated in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) during Term 1. A NAPLAN individual student report will be provided for your child early in Term 3. The same report format is used for every student in Australia.
NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. Student achievement is shown against 4 levels of proficiency:
- Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing.
They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
If your child participated in 2024 and does not receive a report by Friday 2 August, please contact the school office.

It was a wonderful, warm day, where students had the opportunity to try out a number of positions and improve their skills. The students showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day, both towards each other and their opposition.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Mrs Crawford (Abigail, 6M) and Ms Martin (Adelaide, 3M) who assisted with managing the teams on the day. Along with a big thank you to all our parents and grandparents who came to watch and support the students throughout the day.
