Following in the footsteps of Jesus - the journey to Calvary
As pilgrims on a journey of faith, we use the Stations of the Cross to reflect on the ways we suffer humiliation, rejection, suffering, and death. This makes the Stations more than a historic re-creation of Jesus’ walk to Golgotha. The prayers draw us into considering how Jesus accompanies those who suffer in today’s world. The injustice of being arrested and falsely accused, the pain of enduring mockery, torture, and being forced to carry the means of one’s own death, the grace of small acts of compassion in the midst of an agonizing climb, and the surrender of heart and soul to God’s infinite mercy all draw us into a story that is as contemporary as it is ancient. The Stations of the Cross are one of many spiritual practices that we can reflect on as we make our way through Lent.
Following in the footsteps of Jesus, we can seek ways to find and extend mercy to those who shoulder heavy loads.
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wonderful fortnight we have had at OLHC! At OLHC, we have a focus on educating the whole child. Simply put, this means that we educate the students in a variety of spiritual, emotional, social, physical and academic learning opportunities to inspire growth.
Over the past fortnight our students have been involved in just some of the following:
- Our students in Year 3 and above made the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time in the OLHC Parish Church with Fr Sarkis
- Harmony Day - Students were invited to wear a splash of orange to celebrate Harmony Day. The theme for this year is everyone belongs. Guided by the teachings of Jesus, we are reminded to treat others with the same compassion and respect that we desire for ourselves. A simple smile or a kind word can brighten someone's day and foster a sense of belonging.
- NAPLAN - Students in Years 3 and 5 all completed NAPLAN assessments. The results from these assessments provide the school with valuable data in relation to student learning. This helps the school to identify areas that the school is doing well as well as areas for future learning growth. This assessment information will be available to parents when it becomes available.
- The Athletics Carnival last Friday was a great success with lots of community team spirit, trying your personal best and high levels of positive energy!
- Holy week - The events of Holy Week were brought to life with the Stations of the Cross on Tuesday with Fr Sarkis. This helped us to remember the events that led to the death of Jesus.
These opportunities help us to educate each OLHC student in a variety of ways.
We are also grateful to you, the parents and carers, who have continued to show support to the school in a wide variety of ways over this past term. In the true essence of the home and school partnership, it is important for both home and school to work closely together, so as to benefit the child.
Enjoy some Harmony Day photo's;

As we progress towards the end of the term the students are continuing to try to receive House Points so that hopefully their house will be the winning house for Term 1. There are a number of ways that students receive house points; by wearing their uniform correctly, completing their homework each week and when they borrow from the library. Students are able to receive extra house points in the classroom and on the playground for following the school rules - BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL and BE AN ACTIVE LEARNER. Points have also been added from the Swimming Carnival and Athletics Carnival. The Year 6 House Captains count the House Points each week and each Monday the House Points are announced at Flag Raising. On Monday Week 11, the winning House colour for the term will be announced. They will then be awarded with a mufti day during the last week of the term. The House Points currently sit at:
1st - Sarkis (1243 points)
2nd - MacKillop (1167 points)
3rd - Rose (1058 points)
4th - Ingham (1022 points)
Next week our PB4L focus will be the Play Equipment. The students have the option to play in the Play Equipment each day, either at Break 1 or Break 2. 30 students are allowed into this space at a time and these students are rotated out half way through the break time so that new students can have a turn. All students were explicitly taught how to play in this space and use all of the equipment safely at the beginning of the year and these expectations will be retaught next week.

2024 Annual School Improvement Plan
Our improvement focuses and actions in the past two weeks have continued to be centred around our Annual School Improvement Goal - In 2024 students will demonstrate growth and engagement in English based on their assessed need.
Our teachers have all engaged in collaborative conversation meetings around their student assessment and observation of learning data. This has helped to identify where they can further plan their teaching in English, to meet the varying needs of students in their class, and what further screening, adjustments, differentiation and support can be actioned. This work reflects our goal around student engagement.
Welcome to Sokowa Parker - SSO Classroom Support
We warmly welcome Miss Sokowa Parker to OLHC. Miss Parker is a classroom SSO, and will be working at OLHC each Monday and Tuesday for the remainder of the year. She is a former student of John Therry Catholic College. Miss Parker will be supporting students in Stage Two (Year Three and Four).

Staff Development Day - Monday 29 April 2024
Staff will be engaged in professional learning on this day. Thank you for organising supervision for your children.
Parent attention- Afternoon Dismissal and staff car park
Parents are reminded to advise your child/ren how they are going home each day.
If you need to change pick up arrangements, please contact the office before 2pm by phone. This is to ensure we have minimal disruption to class and students are not confused on how they are going home.
Changes to afternoon dismissal should be by exception only and reserved for emergencies or situations that are unavoidable.
DO NOT USE STAFF CAR PARK GATE for access to the school in morning or afternoon drop off.
On arrival at school, students or parents are not to use the gate in the staff car park from 8.00am until 8.30am. Parents and children are asked to use the Demetrius Road pedestrian gate, near St Anne's hall.
Also to help ensure safety, the car park is not to be accessed from 2.30pm until 3.05pm. Parents and children are asked again to use the Demetrius Road pedestrian gate.
We also ask that parents don’t park in the school car park and walk over to pick up their child from the Pick Up or John Therry waiting area.
We thank you for your understanding and support.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Last Friday 22nd March, we gathered at Campbelltown Sport Stadium for the Annual OLHC Athletics Carnival. Students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of track and field events, this would not have been possible without the support of parents, staff and students working together towards a common purpose.
We were blessed with the cooler weather as everyone contributed so generously, to enable the carnival to run so smoothly. A day like last Friday, is not a reality without the combined efforts of many. Gratitude is extended to our wonderful staff, enthusiastic parent volunteers and the energetic and committed students from John Therry Catholic College. Our most important people, our students, had the opportunity to participate in a variety of athletic events using the fantastic equipment available at Campbelltown Stadium.
We particularly thank the staff who worked together to convene the Athletics Carnival, Mr Myerscough, Miss Northey and Mrs Cotterill who supported with organisation and planning. Without this level of planning and organisation from these staff, the carnival would not have been such a success.
We wish the following students all the best when they represent OLHC at the Western Region Athletics Carnival later in the year.

P&F EXECUTIVE 2024
The P&F are a critical part of building community in any school setting. It is the primary advisory to the principal concerning school matters. They provide a forum where matters relating to the growth and development of the school community can be explored. It is a means by which the school can also promote social contact between parents and friends of the school. The P&F is a consultative body under the auspices of the principal. The central role of the P&F is to support the school - in particular the students who are the beneficiaries of fundraising initiatives.
The quality of the relationships between parents and the school is reflected in how each member present is significant for the education of the child. Such relationships call for tolerance and mutual respect for the position and perspectives of the other person.
This is the goal for every P&F meeting.
This year the P&F have a number of exciting fund-raising initiatives to help the school provide resources to support student learning. After the AGM held last week, we congratulate members of the P&F executive for 2024 -
President - Monica Dickey (Quinn Year 6W)
Secretary - Mr Shaun Hudson (Brooklyn Year 1M)
Treasurer - Mrs Kelly Tabone (Riley Year 6W, Hayden Year 2M and Jordan Year 2W)
We still have a vacancy with the position of Vice President for 2024. Please contact the school office should you be interested in nominating for this position.
